Question about 1997 Lincoln Continental

1997 Lincoln Continental Fuses... Need to know which fuses are for what in my 1997 Lincoln Continental. There are two fuse boxes. The fuse box under the hood I know what they all are, but the one under the dash is what I need to know about. I don't have anything telling me which fuse goes where, what goes where, etc. Please and thank you! This is my only transportation...

O, I am not sure what my car has to be honest. How would I find out if it has one or the other? I feel like that is a stupid question!

My car said Low Coolant Level. I asked my husband to check it for me before he got sick and couldn't check it. I thought he had filled it, but he didn't. So the next time I went 2 miles into town the car said Check Engine Temp. So it was overheating. Filled it with fluids, and still overheated. My husband then could not get out of the house to the car to fix or look at it for me So he sent me to get a thermostat. I went and got one, took the old one out (it was bad), and put the new one in. Car still over heating, we were told there was a leak in the radiator by a buddy (so we thought buddy), so we wet to autozone and got the new radiator cause we have the lifetime warranty one. Put that in, no leaks, just still overheating. I told my husband, I said the fans never come on at all even when it said Check engine temp. He had the water pump, head gasket and then the fans checked. Water pump and head gasket ok, so when I got on here and found out which fuse to check for the fans, I seen it was bad. Changed the fuse, they still don't work, was told by my husband I could put a toggle switch on it and they would work. I had turned the defroster on High when the car was overheating to try and cool the motor that way, no such luck with that, when you turn the defrost on high it blows colder air than the air conditioner, but for like 10-20 seconds it will blow hot but only after the cold for quite some time, but right back to cold air. The car still over heats. Wondering if I should try and put the relay in for the fans and go from there. Don't know what else to do, he can not get under the hood, as 6 days ago they amputated his leg. So this is my only transportation, I live on a very tight budget, and can not afford to get another vehicle. Any help is appreciated more than you could ever know, and the help you have already given has been amazing!

Go to motorcraft.com, pro center, tech info, owner manual, fuses in index.

I may have an owner manual if interested. It would be $5 plus $1.50 postage.

Please rate highly if this helps.

PS What is the issue?

Gerry I have an owners manual I got from the net, but I didn't see this page on there, what page is this?

  • gerry bissi Oct 11, 2011

I believe it is page 192 - 194. It did not show up in my web page either. I went to the wiring diagram book for this. Are you talking about the blower motor for the heater and a/c system? If yes, do you have high speed? Also, do you have an electronic digital control heater system? For EATC systems, you have a blower motor speed controller. If you have a manual system, you will have a blower motor resistor in the plenum case. The coils burn out and rust from moisute in the air in the case.
What do you mean by fans and blower? They are the same I think. What led up to it not wrking?

Gerry please see where I posted the entire story. Thanks so much for helping me!

Gerry, I found the blown one for the fans (I think), or blower motor, under the hood, it was a 10amp. I can't read the list above to see what those go to, but those are all ok. Thank you!

we need to check the cooling fan circuit. Check fuse #2 60 amp in underhood fuse box. If ok we will go from there.

  • gerry bissi Oct 12, 2011

The cooling fans are controlled by either the low speed relay or high speed relay that are in teh dual auxiliary relay box under the hood. I doubt both are bad at the same time. Please turn on your a/c to the coldest setting (60) and turn the blower thumbwheel to high speed and see if the cooling fans behind the radiator are working. Let me know.

    Gerry, I emailed you.

  • Candy Bigby Oct 12, 2011

#2 60amp works, the 10 amp one under the hoodwas blown, replaced it. Turned the a/c on highest setting and 60 degrees. Fans kicked on. Car wanted to overheat this morning when I tired to take my daughter to school. I drove the car the 3 miles into town, stopped at my moms shut the car off, took the kids to school, drove the long way home (5miles) car's temp gauge id not start going up until I was almost all the way home (about 1/4 mile from the driveway). Not sure whats wrong, what to do or where to go from here. I did try to email you at the email address you sent me on here. My email address is clbigby@gmail.com. If you haven't recieved my emails you may want to check your Spam folder for it. Thanks again!!

Where are the fuses located for wipers and dash

Usually the fuses are under the drivers side dash however I have seen them in the glove box like on a Cadillac.

However, this sounds like a multifunction switch located on the steering column.

I hope this helps!
