Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

2 Answers

Trouble codes I have a 2000 2.0L Beetle with 95k miles. The check engine light came on. I have a scan tool and came up with 7 different codes. One shows the Oxygen sensor, correction limit attained. The other six are fuel injector circuit(one for each cylinder), fuel tank vent valve circuit, and EVAP system leak detection pump circuit, and all have "short to ground". The engine seems to run fine. I have checked all of the fuses, relays, grounds, and exposed wiring and so far everything seems normal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have the car computer scanned for trouble codes. Hopefully the codes will identify the problem. Auto Zone and Advance Auto will do the scan, and once you have the codes, you can research what they mean on the web. Just do a search for "trouble code..." and the code number.

Without knowing the specific codes associated the illuminated check engine light, it would be imprudent to comment on possible causes. At this juncture, your best bet may well be to let the dealer have another crack at it.

Sorry!

Have the the VW scanned for the DTC codes, there are to many things that can cause the Check engine light to come on. It could be as simple as a faulty gas cap to a bad O2 sensor.
Auto Zone scan free of charge and can give you the suggested method of addressing your engine's issues.

You need a trouble code to help you where to start looking. Take the car or have sombody scan for a code. They will tell you where to begin looking. It does not tell you what exactly the problem is, but will tell you which part of the engine is having trouble. It can be a sensor or electronic valve Such as EGR , or IAC valves.

Some Auto Part Stores will check your car for trouble codes for free. A scanner tool will check your computer memory to see what codes are being set which cause the check engine light to come on.

Check engine light is on

The check engine light indicates that the power control module, which is the computer that controls your cars engine, has detected some event that it is not supposed to. This could be caused by any number of things from a dirty air filter, bad sensors, or dirty spark plugs. You need a OBDI scan tool to read the codes from the computer to see exactly what event the PCM has detected. Once you know what the code is, you'll have a better idea how to fix it.

Any qualified mechanic will have an OBDI scan tool, and many places such as Auto Zone will read the codes for you for free.

Engine light

when your check engine light comes on, you should use a scan tool to check your computer for trouble codes. Damage can occure depending on the reason for getting trouble codes. you can buy a scan tool at cdn tire for about $100- $150...just make sure it is compatable with your vehicle....it is very simple to use, just follow the instructions...the scan tool can also clear all trouble codes in your computer (ECM).
