My 1997 Dodge Caravan SE has a recurring problem with its 'Service Engine Soon' light. I had a couple of repairs related to it which cost me almost $500 and now it has recurred again. Can you help me find a more permanent fix to it? Thanks a lot.

Re: Service Engine Soon light indicator always on
Well the check engine light is directly intergrated to the vehicles main computer.often times when the vehicle is repaired the code that caused the light to come on needs to be reset. there are to forms of codes active, and stored. what often times happens is a stored code doesn't get reset and from time to time it will cause the light to come on. also it could be that even though you had the vehicle repaired it could be that they either did not fix the right problem or they never reset the codes. my suggestion is to take it back to the shop that repaired it and have them do it right. one other thing you should check is that all your fluid levels are as they should be. in most vehicles today low fluid levels ie coolant, oil,etc will cause the light to come on. hope this helps you...please rate this

The oil light is the serious problem-it may mean the engine has lost oil pressure which is very dangerous. Don't drive with the oil light on- have a shop check your oil pressure with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. The previous owner's negligence in not changing the oil may have caused serious internal damage.
The code is not truly a diagnostic trouble code-it only indicates the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts, which would have erased any stored codes if there were any.
there can be numberous things that makes a engine light comes on , it could need a oil change or a tune up ,or a sensor problem or a control module i would have it check out to see if it,s one of the sensors first do that ,first
The srvice engine light may not be the check engine light. The srvice light could be an indication to change your oil, or take your vehicle to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. Do you have the owner's manual to check?
If you Would I need to Know What CODE or CODES are Stored in the Computer, to Help with Diagnosing this Problem, As you said it Could be ANYTHING at THIS POINT. But without KNOWING the CODE/s it is VERY Difficult to Locate Any Problem. Good News is that you can have this Checked at Most AutoZone Stores for FREE. Determine this and Post it here and I/ we can Help to Diagnose the Problem . My Wife Drives Our 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan and I am very Fimiliar with this Model. Reply with Code and I will be Happy to help.
mcdevito75 here, Sounds like either a bad relay or a bad connection at the relay plug, wiggle the connector wires at the relay se if it helps, if so have your shop rig another plug, if not buy a new relay.
ok, if the airbag light is on, there is a fault with the unit, your concerns are valid, if it has a faulty sensor the airbag MAY fire for no reason or not fire when you actually need it. if it has a recall on it, take it to the dealer so they can rectify the fault.
Recalls are a warranty repair from the manufacturer if they try to charge you scream the joint down
It comes on when the key is turned on to show it works, then it goes out as soon as the engine is started, it has a fuse, that will be marked, if the fuse is ok then you may have either a bad connection at the cluster connector or a bad ECM
