Question about Chevrolet Chevy

1 Answer

Hi I'm George in Colorado :-) My 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton workhorse was fine yesterday and I towed a 2.5 ton load of sand. When I tried to pull away from the house the yesterday I couldn't. I didn't have any forward gears. I When I shift into drive, L2 and L1 I don't have any drive power. I hear the linkage move but I can only feel a whisper of power when I depress the accellerator. My reverse will work. Upon inspecting the fluids it was dark and burnt but levels were recently topped off. I've replaced fluids and the transmission filter as well as the vacume modulator and the connecting rubber hose to the vacume line and still don't have the ability to shift into drive. What do ya think?

If reverse is working, it sounds like the transmissino needs to be replaced.

Towing capacity for 1998 Daihatsu Delta tipper

It will be difficult to get this but with a 4 cylinder motor and the vehicle mass I would say that 2 tons with brakes would pull it up. Contact your local roads authority as they should have towing capacities as these figures will be what they use to fine you if you are over loaded.

Hi, we are looking at buying a petrol engine, 1995 land cruiser. It has done 240, 000 km, and seems to run fine. We want to pull an especially made large 2 horse angle float and we own two big warmblood...

I would not recommend this vehicle for this job.You want at least a 3/4 ton truck so you will have a strong transmission and cooling system and rear end for pulling and more importantly large brakes for stopping.Plus 240km is to high for reliable trouble free towing..

This vehicle is not designed to tow. I would advise against towing anything with this vehicle. By the time you load the jet-ski on a trailer you will have well over 1/2 ton. Your engine and brakes will not handle this load.

What is the towing capacity of a 1993 Chevy Suburban 4X4. I can't get an answer from Chevy.

Unless you have the 6.0 ltr motor and towing package the maximum should be about 7,500 lbs. This will be less if you have the small V8 or 6cyl motor It all depends on the motor and towing package. The 6.0ltr will give you above 10,000lbs towing capability, if your truck is set up for this. I don't think you can get the 6.0 in a half ton model though, it must be 3/4 to one ton models.

I have a '97 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 PU. Very good

Sounds like a loose connection, Clean the fuse contacts. Sometimes lubricant and dirt gets on the contacts within the switch itself and this will interfere with power supply. Have you checked the wiper relay corrosion and wear on the relay contacts impair electrical connection. Brighten up contacts with fine sand paper and if the relay contacts are suspect, remove the cover and draw folded sand paper between the contacts until clean.

I have a 2000 chevy tahoe the tow/haul light does not come on and there seems to be no differnce in the shifting of the tranny

pfugi... I'm in the process of trying to change out my turn signal switch and that process requires pulling the plastic trim from on top and bottom of the steering column. I have the same problem that you do with the tow haul and after a few months of it not working I pretty much dismissed it as not a big deal, but I found the problem yesterday and I'd be willing to bet you have the same problem. Where the set of wires comes from the button on the end of your gear arm and into the steering column needs to have some flex to it as you shift the car and the extremely fine wire that they used simply snapped in half. There is absolutely no extra wire there and I'm deciding whether or not to solder on an extension or not while I have it open. I tow a camper and in Colorado quite a bit and I have just relented to manually shifting when necessary.

is it a gas or a diesel? its commen for the gas motor to get really crappy millage try with the tow button off and the shifting should improve, but the gas try changing the air filter to a k&N or something better like it
