I'd check the battery. It sounds as if the solenoid isn't getting enough voltage to kick the starter over. That's a sign that the battery may not have enough power to engage the starter. Maybe trying to jump start the car with another vehicle will help.
I'd try that first, if it doesn't correct the problem, you may have to look into replacing the solenoid, battery terminals, main ground wire, positive contact to start, or even possibly the starter.
