Question about 1991 Honda Accord
My 91 honda has gone through an incredible number of good new batteries, 5,6,and 7 year batteries that only last a few months and with no warning they suddenly go dead. the car runs perfectly otherwise. I have had it checked a number of times and no one can find the problem. it sounds
like the alternator but no one can find any problem with it. they can not find a short anywhere. I am at my wits end because I love this car and don't want to lose it. H E L P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try this. If you have a test light (very inexpensive at auto stores) disconnect the positive battery cable. Then connect the test light in series (pos. end of test light to battery pos. and the alligater clip to the battery cable). Turn off everything possible in your car. If the test light stays illuminated, you have a constant draw. If this is the case, you'll need to track it down.
Here's how: Re-connect the battery and keep everything you can off. Take your test light and connect the clip to a GOOD ground near the fuse box. ( right side under dash) Remove each fuse and test the contacts from the power side. The only one that should light it, is the clock and security system. If any thing else lights the light, there is a short in that system. If this is the case, you'll need to physically follow the circuit to the battery. Disconnect each connection and test the connector on the battery side untill you get to the connection that does not light the test light. The faulty switch or relay or short will be in between those two connection. Replace the component and your done. Have fun. I really enjoy these kinds of challenges.
P.S. I have the service manual for this car on a PDF file. If you need it, contact me and I'll give it to you. (free)
