If it were the harmonic balancer, it would make the noise without the belt. Check tensioner....

I have a howling sound when i start my car. open the hood sound likes its coming from where the belt is. is it time to change

depends on which belt... quick check is to buy a smal spray can of ''belt dressing'' at a auto parts store.... if after spraying the belts it continues, it can be a bad belt tensioning device, or bad / worn vbelts, or maybe a water pump bearing. if it is the belt to the alternator, it could be a bad bearing in the alternator, ac compressor, or even the power steering belt, tension device... a lot of variables....

MY CAR CRANKS BUT WHILE ITS RUNNING IT MAKES A KNOCKING SOUND.THE CAR IS A 1995 BUICK LESABRE.WHAT COULD THIS NOISE BE?

If you can tell where the knock is coming from, it helps a great deal. I know it can be hard for a person not really trained, so I will try to keep it simple. If it sounds like it's coming from the bottom of the enginem then it's most likely a bad bearing. If it sounds like it's coming from the middle or top, then it might be a bad valve lifter or other vbalve train component failure.

I wouldn't drive it if possible and have it towed to a repair shop that you trust for diagnosis. If it is a bad bearing and you continue to drive it, it can cause total failure of the engine and extensive damage.

95 Buick lesabre. New belts, alternater, & water pump. Makes clanking noise while idling. Coming from idler. Any ideas to problem.

Sounds to me like an idler pulley bearing. If that is for sure where the sound is coming from. If thats the case then time to swap out the pulley.

1997 LeSabre has engine "knock"

If it knocks at 50 it will knock sitting still if you race it up. Is the oil pressure good? These motors hardly ever have a bearing problem. The only knock problem was the harmonic balacer that comes apart and knocks. The rubber falls apart and it will make a knock sound all the time, more with the ac on. If you have a knock at 50 or highway speed only you may need a outer tie rod end only. Get the front end checked as they will make a knocking sound on the highway. reply

Replacing front wheel bearing

The brake rotor needs to be removed, drive shaft nut in center of hub then 3 bolts hold the hub assembly to spindle from back side. if it has abs unplug it then some work will need to be done with a hammer and chisel to work the bearing out of spindle and axle shaft from bearing
