Most likely it's your internal tank fuel pump. I had this same problem with my '85 F150. You can fix it yourself by running a wire from the Test plug under the hood used for computer check-up. Find the hole for the fuel pump check and insert the wire there.....run the wire to the body of the truck, this should by pass the short in the system.

Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter. First two things to look at there bud. I'd start there, then start inspecting the fuel lines.

The gas tank on my 1985 ford pickup will not take gas. why is that?

Sound like you gas pump is out. Just right after turning the key you should hear the pump relays kick in and hear the pump engage.

Can u still drive with overdrive out? of my 85 f150

If its just overdrive thats not working you can still drive your truck. It will use more gas because the engine is going to run faster, but shoud'nt hurt anything

Got a 85 ford f150 has a 302 holly carb. was running fine ran low on gas and now cuts out wont back out of drive way idles fine but hit the gas and it stalls

strip and clean out the carb,or quick fix ,rev engine with air filter off and then hold hand over intake this may or may not not cure it .because when hand is held over carb and stops air the suction will draw any muck through the jets

PUT IN FRESH GAS AFTER REMOVING OLD. PUT IN SOME "GUMOUT" FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. OR U CAN REMOVE THE INJECTORS AND HAVE THEM PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED FOR A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS.

1985 300 runs to rich

Is it a Holly carburator? If it is and the choke operating correctly, then you have a warped metering plate in the carb allowing too much gas to go into the engine. Rebuild the carb abd check the plates for warpage before reinstalling them. There is also a power valve in the carburator that some times goes bad. Good Luck,

1985 f150 rough idle

An exhaust manifold leak would not case it to run rough. Check vacuum lines that go to the in take manifold. If you have a line that is open it will get too much air at idle and cause a misfire intermittently. You also need to check plug wires. How long have the plugs been in the heads. Check the rotor and cap also.
