Generally if your check engine light comes on and you have a loss of power this could mean that the ecm has put the vehicle in the self protect mode. the only way to reset this is with a diagnostic scan tool that will interface with the ecm. take it to a small shop and have them do a full diagnostic on it. with out me being hands on it would be hard for me to determin the exact reason as to why you vehicle's ecm did this. please rate this solution please.

if you don't have a shop that has one you have to order it and it is quite expensive my set up alone is 5700.00 us a simple code reader will not really work. have to have a multifunctional in terface with diesel capabilities. The company Snap-On or Mac Tools sell these, however unless you use it all the time it is not cost effective. what island are you exactly on? i could perhaps find a suitable place for you to take the vehicle.

Code came up to P1251 with engine toyota 1KD - FTV. Engine lacks power while driving while engine light on dash board lights up

I have found those code to be shown in not only over boost conditions (wastegate) but EGR flow as well as Catalyst conditions.

Being that you are lacking power I suggest you check the EGR for being stuck open, or the catalyst for being clogged.

These engines do not like light driving, you should drive them hard from time to time to kep the catalysts clean of debris.

Sounds like one or two of the many sensors may have failed,. Like everyone else said... scan it...good luck.

I'm having same problem on my 2000 model rodeo 4wd 3.2L V6. Other day check engine light came on. I checked engine bay nothing abnormal, or power loss. Next day light was gone. 2 days later drivin

Where I live there is a Schuck's auto parts...and they have a hand held diagnostic tester that plugs right in to your harness. This will tell you whats is wrong. It only takes about 2 min and they don't charge you.On my car it was the mass air flow censor. If you can't find a Auto parts store that does this...take it to a shop soon. Good Luck

Mondeo 1.8lx 55 reg 70k, loss of power

Remove the first oxygen sensor when engine is cold and spray 1/3 of HEAVY DUTY DEGREASER block the hole and start for 10 seconds Repeat that 3 or 4 times to clean the catalyst converter ,clean the EGR valve for mail function .check your air filter .

Ford explorer sportrac evap and catalyst not ready problem how to fix it?

One possible issue is a faulty thermostat. If the engine is not getting up to normal temp the emissions system will not go into closed loop.
I know its hot in Nevada now so thats just a suggestion.
The O2 sensors have heaters to make the exhaust gas hot quick so that the sensors can work.
Is the check engine light coming on - or is it just that the exhaust gas is not hot enough for the test equipment ?

Loss of power any incline i know that to much oil was put in on last oil change driven about 500 miles before i noticed and drained and put proper amount in. could the catalatic converter be causing t

Filling the engine oil above the maximum fill mark on the dipstick can and will cause damage to the catalytic converter. If you have a check engine light on scan and look for a code that indicates a problem with the catalyst. If there is a code indicating a problem with the catalyst this is your catalytic converter. You can get an aftermarket converter from about any parts store for around $200 but it will probably only last about a year. I recommend a VW Genuine converter and they are about $500 but they last much longer than the cheaper aftermarket converters. Before you run out and buy a converter, make sure that this is the problem before you spend a lot of money only to have the same problem. 1 way to verify it is to remove the converter and install a section of pipe where the converter was and see if you still have a power loss. I do not recommend driving the car this way for a long period, just long enough to test it and verify it or further damage may result. Hope this helps.

Iput a new alarm sistem on my 2005 odyssey and chek engine light came on, code p 0420

P0420 = catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 1)

I think it is a coincidence that the check engine light came on with this code at the same time as you installed the new alarm.

the power train control module or computer checks the output of the oxygen sensors (pre-catalyst and post-catalyst) and compares them. When the post-catalyst sensor output starts to resemble the pre-catalyst sensor output with little difference, the computer sets the catalyst efficiency code. Check the output of the oxygen sensors. A worn out or lazy oxygen sensor might be at fault. If the sensors check okay, then the catalytic converter may need to be replaced. This is unusual for a 2005 unless the engine has been having misfires. Raw unburned fuel will quickly destroy a catalytic converter.

Check Engine Light ON

What codes come on? P0420

The converter's only purpose is to reduce emissions from the engine, in rare cases the converter can disintegrate which could result in a loss of power but this is not very common,

This means that you're Cat needs repair or replacement, You're car will not pass legally smoged without fixing this. :

Good luck

1 - service engine light flashing. 2 - loss of power. 3 - catalystic converter got red hot and plugged. 4 - had plugs , wires and tune-up done. the mechanic told me that the engine is still missfiring and...

Somehow raw gas vapor is exiting one or more cylinders and being burned inside your catalytic converter. You'll ruin another expensive converter if you replace that before the problem is solved.

Has your mechanic checked the engine timing?
