Land Rover LR3 V8, 2005

The "D" for some reason will not turn off even after the vehicle is turned off. I've even took the terminals off the battery thinking that something would reset something. I also noticed that when I switched gears from "P"-"D" the lights don't illumiate for each respective letter...it remains on "D" the whole entire time. The transmission goes through the gears...i can hear it. It's still drives and there are no warning or indicating lights that come on. One thing that I found that was odd, while I was going through the gears I noticed that the speed-up and speed-down (+ and -) shifting wasn't responding...I beleive it's purpose is for maneuvering at slow or fast rates during bad weather or emergencies....please help.
