Headlights won't turn on. Daytime running lights stay on.

When I hit the switch to turn on the headlights, all lights come on except the headlights. Daytime running lamps stay on. Any POSITIVE solutions?

Highbeams can't come on if the headlights don't turn on. Didn't work. Fuses all look good. Thanks for trying.

My 2002 S10 had the same problem, I pulled off the bottom of the dashboard and bottom of the steering wheel cover (around 8 bolts). There's a plug on the left side behind the cruise control/high beam stalk with several wires attached to it. Turns out some of the wires had become brittle and moving the steering wheel up and down caused them to short. The four small wires for the cruise control all broke off. I pulled out the metal pins and reattached them to the wires, worked for a while...

I had the same problem with my S10. It turned out to be the headlight switch, located on the dash. A new one from the auto parts store was $20 and took only a few minutes to change. I was told that this is a common problem which was why this part was in stock at the store.

See if you can hold on your highbeams, as a temporary solution, until you can check and see if the fuse in the switch to turn your lights on is burnt out. I had the same problem with my car and apparently it was a defective part that GM had produced, but obviously they won't replace it free of charge. I would suggest going to an auto-wreckers and picking up a new switch there... the part usually costs around $400 in Canada.

How disable Twilight on 99 Cadillac Deville

  • Examine the left dash panel to find the headlight switch. This is the control you use to turn the headlights on or off, with the exception of the daytime-running lights.
  • Look directly beneath the headlight switch. You'll see a small lever. This is called the "Twilight Sentinel." Move the lever all the way to the left to the "Off" position.
  • Turn the headlight switch to the "Parking Lights" mode. This icon has a symbol of two small bulbs. The daytime-running lights are now turned off.

1998 Lumina lights don't work at night! The lights work during the day but not at night. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Theres a sensor in the middle of the dash by the front windshield that detects sunlight and triggers the automatic headlights. The main headlights and daytime running lights might be on a different circuit, in which case they daytime running lamps would turn off at night and the main headlights would turn on, indicating the main headlights arent working and the daytime running lamps are working as intended.

I would check all the fuses related to headlights, check the bulbs and check the switch, then last the light sensor on the dash.

I cant turn off the headlights off while my 03 GMC Sierra Z71 is running, the manual switch does nothing unless the truck is turned off.

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra Z71 Extended Cab and the headlight switch won't turn off the headlights while the truck is running. When I got the truck the Photocell Sensor which is the black bubble that sits on the dash that tells the daytime running lights to turn off and on was down in the dash so I fished it out with my fingers and clipped it back in and it made the daytime running lights work. I still can't turn my headlights off while my truck is running though. The owner's manual says that I am able to do so. There's 2 light's on the switch by AUTO and the O for off that should light up? Is it my whole switch?

My 2000 Toyota Corolla headlights will not turn on during the night, and stay on during the day

Your Corolla has daytime running lights (DRLs). A photocell determines whether it is day or night. Your DRLs turn on automatically in daytime without you operating the light control ("headlight") switch. Your DRLs are actually your headlights on low beam. At night, the photocell senses it is dark and disables the DRLs. When you set the light control ("headlight") switch to HEAD, the head relay closes and the headlights should turn on. Since they don't, I suggest opening the engine room junction block and checking the 40A MAIN fuse and the 10A LEFT HEAD (UPPER) and RIGHT HEAD (UPPER) fuses. In engine room relay block 5, check the 10A LH-LWR HEAD and RH-LWR HEAD fuses. Replace any blown fuses and the headlights should be working normally again

The headlight stay on all the time, either daytime running lights or all lights. The car has a sensor bulb in the dash. If you pull the headlight switch on and then push off, they still stay on. Trying...

This sounds like how the headlights on this vehicle are designed to operate. They can be manually turned on if in DRL mode. Setting the park brake before turning the ignition on should keep them from lighting, otherwise they are always on. The light sensor switches between lowbeam and daytime running light modes.

    Headlights wont work properly

Sounds like you have a problem in your headlight switch. As far as them staying on sometimes when you shut the car off are you referring to daytime running lamps or the regular headlights? If it's daytime running lamps that like to stay on and your headlights do not like to turn on then there could be a combination of headlight switch and daytime running lamp relay.

It is possible the relay gets the signal from the headlight switch as well, since they generally turn off when you turn your headlights on.

Brake lights dont work, Turn Signals all goofy

First thing i would do is chg. the break light switch, and make sure to chk. all grounds around tailights, sometimes if there is a ground problem it will travel back thru the hot wire to get a ground, witch in turn makes everything go wackey.
