Question about 1988 Ford Festiva

1 Answer

Acting like it is running out of gas

My festiva acts like it is not getting enough gas or running out of gas. (it has a full tank) lots of lugging. it does a bit better if you can manage to get it in to third or fourth gear. then it seems to run normal. i just replaced the fuel filter three weeks ago and it ran fine. now it is back to its old shenanigans.

Hi I just bought a carburated 88 festiva. the car only has 88000 miles and was pampered. the car made it with no problems home 700 miles other than that the idle was slightly high. the next day the car started funny jumping up and down in rpm. the celinoid or so is clicking. i tried unplugging it does not fix anything. the car stalls now in cold or warm condition. the fuelgauge is on e after 70 miles but gas is in the car. i have added additive to the fuel (cleaner and water dryer). the cat seems hot but not glowing. the fuelfilter is clean. the airfilter is clean no oil. what could be my problem? Thanks

Have you tried to use an additive to your gas that cleans the injectors and carburetor? "Berrymans" fuel cleaner is the best out there.

Car will turn over but acts like getting any fuel. Fuel filter just changed about 10 months ago. Has had tune up. Has full tank of gas.

I would have the fuel filter changed again, just in case sediment from the tank is blocking fuel through the filter, and check the fuel pump. They put them in the gas tank now and they do go bad. If you jack up the back end where the gas tank is, pehaps you will have enough gravity feed to present enough fuel to the injectors to start the car. That will tell you if the fuel pump is bad.
