Idles ok but has no power when you accelerate

    timing is fine ,maybe a little eratic and stiil no power!!!

    1992 toyota pickup 22re 2.4liter 4-cylinder has absolutely no power when accelerating now it starts knocking but doesn't act like a blown motor cause it will actually start again then run a few 100 yards and then knock and run bad no power then wont run then starts again and repeats same

Get the timing checked. If it is off over 5-8 degrees, you may have a timing chain that has jumped a tooth. This is a common issue with the 22 RE with high mileage. Let me ask you this, and this may narrow down my solution...Is there a slight "rapping noise" in the front of the engine? If so, the timing chain guids may be worn or broken. Get the timing checked, and advise me of the findings.

think its time to remove the head and renew the gasket ,also remove the valves and renew the seals and gring them in a bit ,maybe even renew the valve springs ,or buy a newer vehicle as its nearly 20 yrs old

Go to your local shucks or auto zone and they can check any codes behind your check engine light and it's free. It sounds like one of two things a O2 sensor or your mass airflow sensor but they will tell you for sure

i take it you have a 22re engine you must replace the fuel filter in a precarious position under the intake manifold

sound like your mash air flow sensor is gone on the tp sensor i had the same problem with mine

Idle problem

you got it . it is more than likely you have vacuum leak . to chek use a propane torch and while idling intoduce propane at possible area(intake gasket, egr valve , brake booster etc) if idle speeds up and smooth fix it.

Speed at idle


The proper revs on these engines are 750rpm's. You might want to play with the bolt located at the throttle body accelerator/flow control valve in order to increase or restric air going into the engine
