Question about 1998 Volkswagen Passat

Low powered passat

Hi, I've just bought a 1.9TDI (110) Passat. It's unbeliebably slow. Any obvious problem I can look for? I'm sure it shouldn't be this slow! It's very smooth, no smoke, no more noise than you'd expect but badly underpowered! Any suggestions welcome!

I had a similar problem with a 1.9 tdi Passat and it turned out to be the airflow meter. This apparently affects the amount of fuel added on the compression stroke resulting in loss of power.

How to fix 2006 vw passat 2.0t repair code po171

Check the engine for vacuum leaks in the small rubber hosing around the inlet manifold, run the engine and spray wd40 around the hoses if the engine revs rise you've a vac leak. Could also be a faulty MAF sensor which is located near the airbox with an electrical connector running to it. That fault code means your ECU thnks the engine is running lean so is compensating by adding fuel. Either you're gettng extra air into the intake that shouldn't be there or the MAF sensor is sending the wrong signals.

Volkswagen passat climate control not working

Does it stay cold and not get warm? If so your thermostat is out. Shouldn't be too expensive to fix.

Passat 2006 2.0 tdi 140 engine won't start dash warning says either "engine fault, garage" or "low oil pressure".

Exhaust pressure sensor a possibility if it has a DPF (diesel particulate filter). Has it had its fuel pump recall, the oil pressure light could be just the constant cranking and running the battery low.
