Question about 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

1999 Monte Carlo

Just replaced the fuel pump, new muffler, and gas is leaking from the reserve. The original problem was stalling, did tune up and nothing changed. Replaced the fuel pump and took it out and the muffler heated up so bad burnt through the trunk. Replaced the muffler incase of it being a baffle(was in need of new anyway). Still trouble getting it started and leaking from the fuel reserve. PLEASE give me some ideas.. Thanks

Sounds like a fuel management problem. the catalytic converter is getting to hot due to tryin to burn off the excess fuel not burned. causing the muffler to overheat get it scaned at autozone for free. sounds like a o2 sensor runnin lean dumpin more fuel. or a bad mass airflow sensor good luck

I have the smell of gas inside my 2004 Monte Carlo, it started over a week ago, no sign of gas leak and gas mileage is still good. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd use a fuel pressure gage and check correct fuel pressure. Once correct pressure builds up, see if pressure holds for a bit with everything off? If pressure drops like rock, you have a fuel pressure leak. Another thought would be evap leak?
How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes?

Monte Carlo,,,,starts and idles fine...then dies or nearly dies when gas is pressed. Fuel pressure at idel adn full vacuum is 35psi fuel pressure when vacuum line is removed from fuel pressure regulator is...

higher than 35 psi but not exceeding 65 psi
as pressure is determined by volume supplied by the pump then is logical that with a low pressure there is less volume and so injectors can be starved at acceleration and when full power is needed
at the extreme end , excessive pressure will cause injectors to leak and fuel to leak past injector seal causing poor economy and flooding

99 monte carlo 3.1, starts and idles but stuters and almost stalls if gas is pressed. Suspect fuel prolem. In process of changing filter but of course this original filter was siezed on. Had to cut...

Injectors might be the problem, they may not be pulsing,or need cleaning. You can check the fuel pressure on the rail there is a screw on valve,it is a service port,if there is not one, check it at the fuel filter.

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo and how to replace it

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and can be reached by removing the back seat.

Be careful when you are disconnecting all connectors and watch out for the pressure of the fuel pump.

Good luck....

Stalling and brakes wont work properly on 1999 chevy monte carlo

Stalling, could be fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, fuel injectors. Brakes, could be air in lines, defective calipers and pads. Remove one wheel and check the thickness of the pad and look for any leaks. I you intend to replace the pads you will need certain tools, antinseizing compound, and high temp break grease.
