My car has a problem when I turn the key to on position its completely dead dome lights come on also all dash lights come on. The last time they tried to start it there was an odor like a burnt wire coming from the driver area around steering wheel. we tried everything. The theft light stays on and batt, check engine and brake stays on when key is in on possition. battery will loose its charge slowly within hours.

Do your dash lights work? Check the dash light switch to see if it rotates to control the dome light, it may be turned off completely or the dome light ground wire may be loose. If not the wiring will run from the back of the fuse block through the body post to the dome light Good Luck
After you put in the ecu, do the crank relearn, everyone knows how to do that since its common knowledge, and you're good to go. Here is how it's done:Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure. 96-99 chevy 1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start). Allow the key to return to the all position (same as if the vehicle would have started). The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes. 2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt to start the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle. 3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns off) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt to start the vehicle. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. 5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start 6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle. 7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles. sounds like security shut down which will start run for second then shut down after several time the security will shut down completely.......you can try what is called the relearn proceedure..this is what you dealer will do...might have to put battery charger on car first... then put key in ignition and turn to the run position do not crank leave it in the on position for ten minutes...... then turn key to the off position then back to the run position again for another ten minutes.....for the last time turn key off then back to run for the last ten minute cycle.... after the final ten minutes is up turn key to off position then attempt to start... let me know
