Question about 1992 Saturn SL1

1 Answer

Leaking antifreeze antifreeze leaking out the botton of the front of the motor. Is there a freeze plug that may need to be replaced? Is there another hose where the antifreeze can be leaking from? It doesn't seem to be leaking from the hoses. Could it possibly be the water pump?

Could quite possibly be the water pump. There is a weep hole under the shaft, when the bearings go, the antifreeze leaks out at that point. Try checking w/ motor off using a small mirror to get a look under the water pump. If u see corrosion, or it's wet, get a new pump installed. Let me know what u find. good luck countrycurt0

Freeze plugs

no motor size stated, so answers will be vague....!!!
there all over, the engine, they are casting plugs.

get motor hot, turn key off, get front end, on a lift or stands
never crawl under any car with just a jack. (never trust life to china made jack seals, ever) I Use 2 HD stands,
now with FULLY hot motor, you have 12-14psi coolant pressure
and all leaks are now HAPPENING, for sure.

so just look up and see what is leaking??? amazingly easy. huh?
that is what we do.

is your Antifreeze at 50% ,measured with the $2 tool?

do you do full flushes every 2years, if not, it builds acids and eats freeze plugs to death ($$$$$$) despite EPA bs to the contrary.

I have a 95 chevy tahoe v-8 engine. When u put antifreeze in it, it leak's out the back part of the motor... Then when i start it, it pour's out of the front of the motor. Is it the freeze plugs? How hard...

I dont think its the freeze plug, there might be a hose there in the back, or if you had a block heater then that might have come loose, but where in the front does the antifreeze lean?

Antifreeze leaking front right motor could it be freeze plug or water pump

If it's the right (passenger) front, it is probably either a hose or the plastic tank radiator has a crack-How cold has it gotten there, though? Because if you dont have 50/50 antifreeze, a freeze plug is a distinct possibility.

My van is leaking antifreeze for the botton of the car isee it dripping off the transmission pan it is over heating and i loosing a lot of antifreeze

you may have blown a manifold gasket. check oil and see if it is milky looking. Does oil pressure light come on? If so the gasket is blown. I had a leak once and it was ths gasket, but none was leaking into oil, just out onto the engine near the intake manifold. You may also have a corroded freeze plug. If you live up north and get a lot of snow and road salt, this could really be the issue. They are not easy to change on front wheel drive engines. Sorry. Have a great 4th of July.

Antifreeze leaking from freeze plug

sorry not an easy fix, you must replace the freze out plug by taking out the old one and replace with a new one. needs to be done on a lift not a backyard job

Leaking antifreeze and it's not a pipe or the water pump

Freeze plugs are usually on the side of engine block. If the freeze plugs leaking, it is a simple job to replace them without removing the engine. You should get under the truck to locate the source of leaking antifreeze.

Freeze Plug Leak on my 1996 GMC Jimmy

i would hardly call this repair simple or inexpensive. the part itself yes the labor probably not. i have made this repair myself to my 97 jimmy if you have 4 wheel drive the transfer case up front makes this repair next to impossible from the underside of the car plus the fact that it is behind the motor mount means the the mount must be removed. this involves raising or removing the motor. simple? on a car of this age you will probably find (as i did) the motor mounts are damaged might as well replace them too the parts are fairly inexpensive. also look into replacing all the plugs so you dont have to do this again in a few years. oh yea use the proper antifreeze mix in your radiator water is what rusts out the plugs
