The intercooler cools the air charge being forced into the engine by the turbo. The turbo only system forces the same temperature air that it receives into the motor. Cooler air makes more power.

SOURCE: do i need a turbo timer for an intercooled diesel engin..isuzu...

Yes it pays to have a Turbo timer or let it run for 3 minutes after an outing.
An Intercooler is usually fitted to turbo charged engines. It cools the air entering the engine making it denser,Thats why cars go really well on frosty mornings after they reach running temp.
Hope this helps.

OK hi Mr gar mosey I have gotten back the van from the mechanic today an yet still I find it have no speed at all its a 4d56 non intercooled turbo I had the head shaved because it was wapped the older...

What is the question here? What is the car and model? What is the problem? You don't simply add an intercooler and turbo to a non turbo vehicle. The valves in a turbo are different and made for higher heat. The costs are really substantial. If you had warped the head of your current engine, it was probably caused by heat, then you don't want to turbo charge the engine you have. Changing the engine is ridiculous unless you are doing it yourself and have a perfect match. Sell the car and get something faster if that is your problem. But I can tell you the first light you come to will have someone in the other lane with a hotter car than yours... Don't do this to try to make an old car go fast. It is a waste of money and effort.

in the USA we use alldata.com (or the dealer FSM)

i guess you dont know that some heads are not torqued, or use TTY bolts, right? some are set by ANGLE degree.
that is covered in the FSM all that. the facts.
most head failures result from guessing.
or asking here, with no facts on car.
some engine run different heads, and different if turbo.

case in point, all this Mitsubishi engines

If intercooler ohocked turbo could hot?

its possible ,are you making good boost pressure? that will tell you if you have an intercooler problem, no boost pressure you have an air problem, check your turbo tubes (rubber hoses that connect to intercooler), make sure your air cleaner is new and or very clean and no restrictions.

Where do I find the intercooler drain for hyandai sante fe 2008 crdi turbo

Naturally, any drain for something will come off the bottom. Find the bottom of the intercooler and look for a valve.
Odd that an intercooler should have a drain. There shouldn't be anything in there to drain out, as the intercooler should only have air on the inside, coming from the turbo and going to the engine.

Tubro was making 40lbs of boost, now only 20 what's going on

turbos generate boost fro the heat in the exhaust and the free flow of exhaust gases. That means the amount of fuel through the injectors and blocked cat converter or exhaust system. OK now you know how the boost is generated look for areas that will loose the pressure (boost ) between the turbo and the manifold Look for loose boost hose clamps on the turbo and intercooler and intercooler and manifold. Look for cracks or holes in intercooler. Look for blocked air cleaner as turbos use more air through the air cleaner than normal. Finally look at the compressor blade of the turbo as any bent fin will slow down the turbo wheel giving less boost. Have the turbo tested for correct operation

Is it advisable to put an intercooler to a turbo 4D56 engine? i want to know the effects, in terms of engine performance.

an intercooler will cool the air that the turbo has compressed(when you compress air it gets hot)you will notice the difference......but hard to give actual increase in bhp.your acceleration times will drop as well.

Yes, your intercooler is a problem cos it cools down the turbo charger. The turbo is what gives you your extra power, and when it overheats, it loses pressure and thatcauses loss of power.

Blown headgasket

Yes the manual for the 740 should be good enough. some of the hoses will go to different locations to the charcoal canister. and the Intercooler will probably have different pipes. Make sure you take pictures when you remove the hoses. Be careful especially around older rubber hoses on the Turbo - Intercooler system as these can be expensive to replace
