The sensor is actually plugged into the engine block and senses the crank position as one of the crank throws pass it. It is located on the rear of the engine block about midway up the block, it has a connector going to it. See picture below. Be sure you use jack stands to support the car, YOU MUSTA RAISE THE CAR TO ACCESS THE SENSOR OR EVEN SEE IT AND GET UNDER IT. 93 Chevy lumina van , no spark ,tunes over nice ,3.8 engine

Almost always it's the crank sensor on a 3.8.They fail so often,I recommend changing the crank sensor at every tune up.
Otherwise the 3.8 is a great engine.

Turning off at slowdown moments

sounds like you have a throttle position sensor that is faulty or the idle screw is set too low. You can also have a clogged catalytic converter and that will cause other problems at all speeds and not just at idle. Your crank position sensor could also be faulty but that would also show problems are other speeds.

Where is the crank position sensor located

The crank sensor is located near the crankshaft of the engine, the shaft that rotates the pistons up and down inside the internal combustion engine.

So look for wires that lead from the harness to this sensor and you'll find it.

It's just a pickup coil.

3.1 1993 lumina starts fine as it warms up it starts skipping and then cuts off. stalls and will not crank until it cools off

Unplug the temperature sensor and see what happens. If no change then the temp sensor plug maybe plugged somewhere it should not be. Sometimes it isb possible there are missmatched sensor connectors.
