Question about 2004 Volvo XC90
My headlight covers are getting very scratched and would like to buy a couple of replacement headlight assemblies and replace myself. Do I need to remove the front bumper in order to do this?
Its really easy. Open the hood, you will see two metal flat bars on the backside of each headlight, holding the headlight assembly on. Pull up on each of them.... remove headlight. Ta da.

Actually the crud you speak of is outside the lenses, it just looks like it's inside. Initally I bought Autosol polish to clean out the lense, the product works well for polishing but not effective enough to remove the crud. Autosol polish has some abrasive material in it so I figured why not wet sand the lenses? I've done some body work before and wet sanding is a good way of removing unwanted high spots or orange peel effect on the body. I figured I had nothing to lose as my lenses were pretty bad. Well it worked, I used 600 grit wettable sand papaer you could find at any autoparts store. It took about an hour a lense to wet sand and finish polish the lenses with Autosol. Now she looks good as new.
When wet sanding you'll notice that as you go along the crud slowly comes off and a milky substance starts coming off. Don't hammer down on the lense as you work your through the whole thing. You could go on a circular or staright pattern it doesn't matter much, one you finish it off with Autosol it 'll remove the sandpaper scratches. I bought the Autosol kit from Winter Brook Farm Antiques (online), I found they had the best kit and price available. I'm sure there are probably other polishes you could use but this one worked for me. Hope this helps!

The lens is easy to replace, but "we" all know why we can't buy it separately....!? We have to make a mold of the plastic lens, and make a glass lens, and I think "we" ( who ever wants to join me ) could make some money too. What do you think ?
