Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Replacing battery. I just bought a 97 GP and it appears it needs a new battery. A question I thought I would never need to ask but, how do you get the battery out. It is tucked in under a cross member and water tank. It is also boxed in between the fender well, headlight assembly and engine.

The battery is located beneath the washer fluid reservoir on the driver's side of the vehicle. Unfortunately, several parts have to be removed to access the battery. I first removed the three bolts securing the horizontal brace that extends from the area of the driver's side hood hinge to the frame in front of the radiator. Tape the bolts to the metal part to keep them from getting lost. Removing the brace will allow the white plastic washer fluid reservoir to be removed, but the black fuse box rests atop the end of this reservoir. The fuse box is secured to the automobile frame with two small pressed metal nuts remove these nuts to allow the fuse box to be slid off of the two metal studs on the frame. The fuse box will need to be shifted slightly to allow the plastic washer fluid reservoir to be removed. The reservoir is secured to the car frame by two bolts that engage the frame in front of the radiator. Remove these bolts and carefully lift the reservoir to reveal the small rubber hose extending from the base of the small black pump. Slide this hose off and tape it to something to keep it from falling out of sight. The wires to the small black pump will then need to be disconnected by pulling the gray plug away from the cylindrical pump. The reservoir can now be pulled away revealing the top of the battery. The battery is held in place by a wedge or clamp that holds down on an "ear" or "lip" of the battery. Removing this long bolt will allow this hold down clamp to be removed. The battery has side bolts or terminals that may prevent you from easily removing the battery because the negative post is so close to the plastic air intake nozzle. If you can't wiggle the battery out, you may have to remove this air intake and/or loosen the air filter box. I was able to replace my battery after I removed the two bolts holding down the air filter box. These two bolts are on either side of the air filter box at the bottom. With the loose air filter box, I was able to shift the air filter box just enough to allow me to remove the connections and the battery. Make sure to use the same number GM/Delco replacement battery, other brand(s) equivalent batteries did not fit within the nested area of the plastic washer reservoir,

I've got new batteries before that weren't fully charged or had a bad cell,, take the battery and have it LOAD checked, this will determine if the battery is holding the amperage it needs, once you have a Known GOOD battery , start the vehicle,, with a meter check the battery posts, ( make sure that you have cleaned them and everything is nice and tight) when holding the meter on the posts, you should get a reading of 13.5 -14.5 volts, if not, its the alternator thats bad and will need replacement, since you state that the alternator has been replaced,, it could just be the battery . check to see if the car can be jump started off another vehicle using jumper cables, if it can that too points to a bad battery . if it can't, then you need to check the fuses that have to do with the starting procedure and also the relay, if those check out to be ok, then move on to checking the Ignition itself, .

The injectors can be replaced one at a time. They come out of the connector assembly. What problem do you you have because these hardly ever go bad.

2005 Lexus RX330 HID ballast replacement, passenger side headlight. What is the removal procedure please?

I have a 2005 Lexus Rx330 with HID AFS headlight. My passenger side light went out. I thought the bulb burnt out, so I bought a new bulb. After replacing the new bulb, it happened exactly like my old bulb. It light up lightly and then total black out. What's wrong with it? I thought the ballast burnt. I called Lexus dealer and asked for the new ballast/transformer. Surprised me, they don't know what is it. They told me they only know the wiring harness and the socket, but not the ballast ??????? Could you tell me what do I need to replace?

Thanks,

Bought new starter for my 97 neon due to always needing jump now car wont crank just clickin noise so bought new battery now wont do anything not even click could I need an alternator?

Jump atart the car or charge the battery to get it running again. With the engine running, check the battery with a voltmeter. Should be around 13.5 to 14.0 volts. If significantly less, I would suspect alternator or wiring. Also check the lone fat red wire coming off the positive battery terminal for corrosion - replace the eyelet if it doesn't look clean.

My 91 toyota celica gt will not hold a charge.

the only reason that a battery will go flat is if its not getting a charge from the alternator, the brand new battery you purchased might be a little faulty but i cant see it. has your ride got abnormal stereo in it or aything unusual such as lots of dvd players n such as these can make it so your standard alternator cant charge quick enough before releasing to the equipment.

Calibration error appears on radio read out [2003 S10 P/U]

Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect, I recently had the same problem and thought the control head had gone bad, for some reason I had to take the battery off and when I reconnected it all was back to normal. If not you need to read the codes with a scanner.
