The 5.0L has 1.6 ratio from the factory, you want to use 1.7 ratio, and there is no adjustment required, however I would use hardened push rods, the stock may bent at high RPM.

On a 1999 Buick park avenue 3.8L. We changed the head gaskets and now it has no compression at all. But if we loosen the rocker arms it has compression. What could be wrong?

The most likely cause would be that the lifters have pumped up while the engine was torn down. This is keeps the valves stuck open, thereby preventing normal compression. You will need to collapse the lifters by applying pressure on them. Normally the pressure applied by the valve springs will do it all by themselves, but at times this must be aided by applying pressure to the pushrod side of the rocker arm with a wooden hammer handle. One other cause could be if the heads were milled while off and they removed too much material. This would mean that the normal stroke of the hydraulic lifter can no longer compensate for the change. In this instance there are shorter length pushrods available, but you would need to source these through a machine shop, as they are not part of a standard engine parts catalog.

there is no such thing,
sorry
here ill paste the install push rods/rockers. lines

(1) Rotate the crankshaft until the "V8" mark lines
up with the TDC mark on the timing chain case
cover. This mark is located 147° ATDC from the No.1
firing position.
(2) Install the push rods in the same order as
removed.
(3) Install rocker arm and pivot assemblies in the
same order as removed. Tighten the rocker arm bolts
to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.) torque.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate or crank the engine during
or immediately after rocker arm installation.
Allow the hydraulic roller tappets adequate time to
bleed down (about 5 minutes).
(4) Install cylinder head cover.
(5) Connect spark plug wires.

Adjust rocker arms on 1990 2.9 ford

this is from the AutoZone web site.

2.9L Engine
No periodic valve lash adjustments are necessary on this engine. The engine utilizes a hydraulic valvetrain to automatically maintain proper valve lash. However, some earlier models have an adjusting screw on the rocker arm, which is used when assembling the engine to properly preload the lifter. If the engine has been disassembled, and the valve train parts were not kept in order, or there is an audible sound from the rocker arms while the engine is running, perform the adjusment procedure below.
The following procedure should be performed on a cold engine.
  1. On the cylinder to be adjusted, position the cams so that the tappets are in the base circle area.
  2. Loosen the adjusting screws until a distinct lash between the roller arm pad and the valve tip can be noticed.

The plunger of the hydraulic tappet should now be fully extended under the load of the internal spring.
  1. Carefully screw in the adjustment screws until the roller arms slightly touch the valves.
  2. To achieve the normal working position of the plunger, screw in the adjusting screw 1 1 / 2 turns, equivalent to 2mm.

You must remove the valvecovers to access the rocker to valve stem clearance. use the chart I added to have the engine in the correct positions for adjustment. you will need a feeler guage set also. good luck, keep me posted if any more questions

Needed torqur spec on rocker arms on 1994 gmc 5.7liter

There is no torque spec for rockers. You tighten until there is no backlash, then preload another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. With #1 at TDC on the compression stroke, you adjust #1 by this procedure. You can also adjust intake valves on #'s 2, 5 & 7 as well as exhaust on 3's 1, 3, 4 & 8. Then rotate the engine until #6 is TDC on compression stroke and adjust intakes on #'s 3. 4. 6 & 8 and exhaust on #'s 2, 5, 6 & 7. Good luck.

Does 1966 mustang 289 have self adjusting valves?

If it's a "K" code hi-po 289, then it has solid lifters and the valve clearance is adjustable. If a standard 289, then it has hydraulic lifters which are zero clearance and self adjusting, i.e. there is no adjusting screw on the rocker arm.

I have a 1965 Ford 289 which I want to upgrade to a roller tip rocker arm. I ordered from Speedway Motors part #575-83201. I also ordered new pushrods and was sent part #915-14100. The new pushrods are...

You may be able to use them, there should be enough adjustment to make them work.FordMotorsports and Crane make a pushrod that is 8.640 which is what I used with those rockers. To check fit install 1 pushrod and 1 rocker on #1 cyl turn the engine over by hand 2 revolutions and then check and make sure the rocker tip is dead center on the valve,if it is you're good to go.

How do you adjust aftermarket roller rocker arms

well first you need to know the firing order...if it's a small block chevy the firing order is 18436572. You need to write the second four digits underneath the first four digits.

so it looks like this 1843
6572

This will let you know which rocker to adjust...turn the engine over by hand using a rachet on the crank shaft bolt by the harmonic balancer until you get both rockers for number 6 cylinder moving at the same time. Now you may adjust the clearance for both rocker for number 1 cylinder. Then crank the engine over by hand again until number 5 cylinder rockers start to move. Now you can adjust the clearance on number 8 cylinder. You will need to know the manufacturer specs for the valve clearance...continue until all rockers have been adjusted.

Note: The engine should be warm when you make the adjustment.

please rate this.
