This sounds like the brake light switch or the control switch on the brake pedal is bad or loose. Check under the dash above the brake pedal there should be one or two switches that tell the brake lights to come on and the cruise control to shut down.
Look at your brake master cylinder, open the top to it, and check your brake fluid. If low, that is why the brake light is on. Or check to see if your emergency brake is pushed in. Check your fuses for the cruise control. Hope this helps, James Booth
Just wanted to let everyone know what the problem was. The brake light switch was causing the problem.
When I spoke with the "GOOD" dealership they had asked if I was having a
problem with the cruise control as well and that if I were it was more
than likely the brake switch. At the time I didn't know yes or no, as I
have mainly been city driving (not to easy to use the cruise). So I
went for cruise and tried the cruise control and it didn't work, it came
on but I was unable to set it for a specific speed.
So I headed over to the "GOOD" dealership (as they had this part in
stock) purchased the brake switch for $15 and proceeded to change the
switch out in the parking lot. It only took 5 minutes and no tools were
required. Afterwards I went for a cruise and the cruise control was
working fine, and I have yet to see the dreaded "Service Elec Brake
System" warning message in 3 hours of driving.
Replace the Brake light control switch located in front of the brake peddle under the dash this also turns the cruise off when braking. While driving put your foot behind the brake peddle and pull back toward you while doing this try your cruise if it works there are three possible causes or a combination of all three. Brake control Switch, Loose or sloppy brake pedal not activating the Brake switch properly or week brake pedal return spring. Good Luck.
