The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.
When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon or small picture of an engine) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible system faults (the gas cap is just one of them) that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested

Engine has hesitation/miss without a check engine light coming on upon acceleration

there are many things that could cause that from bad gas to weak fuel pump or dirty inline filter or timing chain could be weak or dirty intake or bad catalitic converter or no converter or even a vaccum line off or cracked or even a bad EGR valve so you see theres alot of things that cause poor exceleration or idle. Hope this was some what helpfull.

Check engine light on vehicle bogs down and bucks no miss-fire

If you have an Autozone close by, run your Voyager over threr and have them hook up the code reader so you can see what the error code is that is causing the check engine light to come on.
This will give you a clue to whats causing the problem. Hopefully it's just a sensor and not a catalitic converter problem.

Good Luck

Engine hestitation, 2000 subaru forester

I think these codes are indicating a fault with your catalytic converter. The 02 sensors are each not returning the correct values to the ECM, causing a "suspect the 02 sensors" fault code.

Service engine soon light blinking /car backfiring and missing

If your check engine light is blinking, you can take your car to Autozone, Advanced Auto or other parts house and ask them to get the engine codes. This ios a FREE service. It sounds like your camshaft positioning sensor, Cam Positioning sensor is bad. This is how comuterized systems tell where the cam and crackshaft are to set the timing. It sounds like you have timing issues.

Code: Insufficient Catalytic Converter 1? I replaced the catalytic converters on my car at a local muffler shop and afterwards the SES light came back on. The code says insufficient catalytic converter 1....

You should have changed the front o/2 sensors if any. The rears just read what the cats are doing and the fronts control the fuel feeds to the engine. Using Aftermarket cats is usually a hit or miss prop on the p0420. U need to find a shop that can really diag this for you because it sounds like only one bank is coding for you therefore bank 2 is ok. Go to IATN.com and find a good mechanic.

Check engine light is flashing and he engine is running very rough. what is the most likely problem

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A MISFIRE, THE RESON THE LIGHT IS FLASHING IS SO YOU WON'T DRIVE IT. THE FLASHING LATS YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO DAMAGE THE CATALITIC CONVERTER. HAVE THE CODES CHECKED AND THAT SHOULD TELL YOU WHAT CYLINDER IS MISSING.
