Question about 2000 Mercury Sable
I am getting these codes fairly quickly after I reset the check engine light. Is the fix for the P0400 the same as for the P0401? Do I follow the same procedure (multimeter & vacuum pump)? What is the P00A0 code? I can't find any reference anywhere.
P00A0 is a factory readable only code (i.e. only ford dealers have the computer to read it)
the P0400 is a generic E.G.R. flow restriction code. so yes a dvom (multimeter) and a vacuum pump to diagnose it correctly, also check for loose wires as ford harness connectors are known to fail alot due to crappy phenolic content in the plastic and heat combined they can warp and / or corrode the contacts

The p00a0 code refers to a ford code. That code is Fuel air metering auxiliary emission controls. Most common referance to that is a dirtly throttle plate. P0400 is a EGR flow malfunction and p0401 is egr flow insufficant. I would purchase a DPFE sensor. That sensor controls the vacum to the egr controller. Its a very common problem. Replace that sensor and reset the light. All should be ok.
