Clunking sound under 92 Camaro

I just bought the car and it runs fine except a intermitent clunk or back fire or something while driving. It happens regularly but no pattern or apparent reason. Any ideas?

clunking is never a good thing

need a visual inspection of moving parts

pop the hood see if something doesnt look right

look under the car see if anything is broken or hanging down

CLUNK IN STEERING SHAFT

Sounds like this vehicle may have had some suspension or accident damage. It needs to be put up on a lift, engine running while someone turns the steering wheel back and forth, a second technician under the vehicle inspecting for where the interference exists when the clunking happens. I don't recommend driving this vehicle.

Klunking sound under my jeep. fluids are fine. it was in park in my drive way.

have you been offroad recently?
might be something (tree branch) stuck under the car.
- put the car on a car lift and check if you can find some foreign matter or perhaps something bitten by a marten.

Truck has clunking sound when driven on rough road or bumps 92 ford 2 wheel drive 302 super cab

Is the clunking form the body reaction to the bumps or is through the transmission. What ever sounds like some rubber is missing. Look at frame to body mounts, spring to frame mounts and anti roll bar mounts, basically anything that isolates something that moves from something that should be solid. On the transmission look at rubber prop couplings and universal spiders along with gearbox and engine mounts. Finally check the shock absorber mounts for wear

Check your tranny mount sometimes the rubber part cracks and makes a clunking sound, also check your universal joints on the driveshaft if they are bad they will clunk, both are cheap fixes.

Clunking sound while driving

inner joints a plunging joints have problems acceleration jolts from a dead stop... the outer rezzepa joint clicks usually when turning thats the balls falling out trunion..... not usually clunking ... possible wheel bearings they are pressed in on front wheel drives... or even a tranny mount maybe ...it almost sounds like somethings loose ...its hard to diagnos online..srry i need more info about the symptoms...

1997 town&counrty AWD has a clunk when backing

The drive train could be binding up when hard turns are done. its common on AWD vehicles, but there should not be any clunking or noises. its possible you have worn rear drive shaft joints? i dont think it would be the half shafts due to the dont turn. or mover up and down that much. the drive shaft to the rear diff would have more stress.

I would have a garage check it out ASAP. cause you would need someone under there to check. i dont suggest doing that in your driveway for saftey reasons. hopefully its something thats not too expensive.
