Do you have a 3.1 engine
if so they have had a history of having bad intake gaskets that leak antifreeze

Well, I have to first ask do you loose coolant? if not the sensor in the resivour bottle is likely stuck tap it firmly with a tiny hammer had it happen hundreds of times on GM products in my 14 years owning Ace Automotive diagnostics facility in Lakewood Wa 1992-2006
Please visit http://www.aceautomotive1.com I believe thee is an entry in the BLOG or FAQ on that very subjec tBut try that and also make sure the connector to the level sensor is ffree of any corrosion and the connector is secure. Any questions and or feedbck can be left at fixincars@yahoo.com or at randy@aceautomotive1.com and please ratethis advice as a fixya if it is helpful. Thanks,Randy

SOURCE: low coolant light keeps coming on and its not keeping anti freeze

this is a common complaint, GM/Buick recommends you remove the sensor from the radiator side tank and replace it.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Century Buick and my low coolant

Hi!!
You may have air in the system. There should be a bleeding valve on top of the thermostat housing, where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. Look in your owner's manual for the procedure to bleed air from your cooling system.
As long as the temp. gauge shows normal readings, you should not worry about any damage to the engine. Once the system has been bled, take the vehicle to an AutoZone or similar auto parts store to get the Low Coolant light reset, or, wait until it resets itself.
Good Luck! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

How to I get the, "low coolant", light to turn off on my 2001 Chevy lumina

have the coolant sensor checked and check the wire to it
they work by having a continuous power supply through the sensor through the coolant to earth to keep the light off
any break in that wire of sensor results as a low coolant because the power can no longer earth out and so the light comes on

My low coolant light keeps coming, i replace the Thermostat on yesterday but got in car this morning and light came right back on put water in and drove to work when i got to work cut car off look under...

Low coolant doesnt have anything to do with the thermostat. If the coolant bottle was over filled, it will push out, it needs some air space. only fill it to the full line. If the low coolant light is on, but its not really low, the sensor may be bad. Be sure to use the correct coolant DEXCOOL.

My car turns the light low coolant and when i turn it on it comes like smoke. i put antifreese again. but it keeps showing the ligth low coolant

I dont remember the lumina having a low coolant light.

It does have a low washer fluid light though.

You can see if you coolant overflow bottle is full. If it isnt, fill it to the hot or cold mark on the side.

Fill your windshield fluid too and see if the light goes out.

Good luck and be safe!

I own a 2000 Cadillac Deville and the low coolant light keeps coming on but when I check the reservoir, it is full. What should I do to correct this problem?

I had the same problem and they suggested that I add GM tabs to the collant system to keep it from and very slow and tiny leak. They added the tabs and the low coolant light stopped.
