Fuel pump replaced and filter replaced but problem still exists.

  • coltnlee Sep 19, 2008

    No codes from pcm

  • coltnlee Sep 19, 2008

Yes my scanner will scan live data. Unknown pressure on the fuel pump. Could the computer cause this problem without throwing a code?

  • coltnlee Sep 19, 2008

    It's a 5.7 Vortec. What's a noid light?

  • coltnlee Sep 19, 2008

Funny... I did smell fuel now that you mention it. Vehicle is not with me. I can check it tomorrow. However, I did not notice blue smoke. It didn't stay running long enough to see. Truck ran fine prior to timing chain failure.

  • coltnlee Sep 19, 2008

Runs very smooth before it dies just dies quickly, few seconds but has not run since chain replacement.

    Thank you

    Any codes retreived from pcm?

  • travis campbell Sep 19, 2008

Is your scanner capable of viewing live data with the ignition key on and you say fuel pump replaced. How mutch psi is it holding?

  • travis campbell Sep 19, 2008

What engine is it? Are you able to get a noid light on an injector plug?

  • travis campbell Sep 19, 2008

A noid light is a 12volt light light that you plug into the injector plug to see if you are getting a correct pulse from the pcm....I had a gm in with similar symptoms.Ended up being the mass air flow meter.Do you notice a strong smell of fuel when you crank it or see bluish smoke from tailpipe?

  • travis campbell Sep 19, 2008

So it had a timing chain failure? Has it ran good at all since chain replacement? When you crank it,does it run rough before it dies? I would check the compression in the cylinders. You could have engine damage from jumping time. I am pretty sure the vortec 350 is an interference engine. Meaning that if the piston is at Top Dead Center and the Valve is open they will make contact...Thus causing valve or piston damage...

  • travis campbell Sep 19, 2008

Do a compression test ,this will verify whether any engine damage was incurred when the chain broke. Also check all electrical connections where the timing chain was replaced...Good Luck...Keep me filled in...Good Night...

00 Explorer 4.0 ohv v6. If cam position sensor fails will it cause, #1 engine to die at hwy speed 60mph? Also upon trying to restart, it cranks very fast, is that poss. cam sensor failure too? Thanks

No, to the second question- sensor won't make it crank any different. Faster than normal cranking often means a broken timing belt -less friction with the valve train not moving, so engine spins faster. But you have a timing chain, right? Any engine noise when it quit at 60mph? You could watch some valve action through the oil filler cap while the engine is being cranked, to make sure the timing chain is still intact.
If all is good, check for spark and gas to the engine. If stopped while running, it could be a failed fuel pump or a problem in the ignition system- cam or crank sensor, ignition coil, ignition control module, some of the things to check if no spark.

91 chevy cav z24 5 spd will not start @ times sounds like no fire other times sounds like no fuel.Replaced fuel pump, timing chain, crankshaft sensor, oil sensor, map sensor, body throttle accel sensor.st

Pull the air cleaner off and crank the engine. If puffs of air come come out of the throttle body when cranking the engine then the timing is not set correctly. Otherwise, after cranking pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel and if so this indicates an ignition problem (coil, distributor/cap/rotor or faulty ECU).

Why wont stratus start

seems like if it was getting fuel it would start. if it starts with fluid it should stay running if its getting fuel. also there are two different cam gears that come on these engines. if the wrong one is installed it wont start unless you unplug the cam sensor. make sure you have the right gear. if it dosnt look the same as the old one, its wrong. also check your engine vacum while cranking. if the vacum is low its a sign the timing chain is off the marks. your plugs would all be wet with fuel if it wont fire, check for this if above checks out

Engine cranks but car won't start and the rotor doesn't move

Pull the distributor out. Probably the gear on the bottom has broken away from the distributor shaft.

Truck wont crank. we have put new distributor cap, rotor button, coil pack, plugs, wires, and fuel pump. we also checked our firing order.

you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.

2005 Dodge Stratus ? Camshaft Position Sensor causing problems (I

I had the same problem with my '05 Stratus SXT 2.4 DOHC. I've replaced the cam pos sensor and it seems to be running fine right now. On the Dodge forums a lot of the guys say that you need to replace the crank pos sensor too. I've bought one of those just in case it comes back again. Hope this helps.
