It sounds like the latch on your door is in the closed position. to fix this, first make sure that the door is unlocked, then pull on the door handle( as if you are trying to open the door) then at the same time using your finger or a pencil open the latch on the door. (try closing the door)

My rear passenger door won't shut because the child lock is stuck in place. it was on and when i tried flipping it down it got stuck and will not budge. what do i do?

Sounds like the latch closed on you. Make sure the door is unlocked, then pull up on the outer door handle, take a small screw driver to reach into the latch to pop it open. the door should then close normally.

You can look at the front doors latch to see what it is supposed to look like first, it may help.

Other wise you will have to replace the door latch, witch is a fairly common problem on those. And not much fun to do.

if you talking about door latch wont let door close.try to reset all door locks.first if you cant get door close.work unlock button with remote or door switch.then hold open door handle while you flat screw driver pull up latch in door latch should stay up so door will close.once get door close.try resetting all door locks by sitting inside vechicle with all doors close.remove key from ignition.open drivers door.wait 24 seconds.turn ignition switch on and back to lock position 3 times.press and release drivers door courtesy light 3 times.ensure doors lock and unlock.if not wait 40 seconds and repeat procedure.if this procedure fails. you have problem in the door latch and lock mechanism inside the door itself.

Maybe try some WD40, and spray it on the lock and inside as best as you can. I mean spray a lot on it. It may be oil and dirt on it or it may even be iced up. WD40 will remove small amounts of ice build up.

My windstar vans side door on the driver side is stuck in teh lock position. the door is not shut all the way but I can't unlock it. I've tried to pull the lock up but it won't budge. please help

Try to close the door fully by pushing it forward (may require several hands pushing at once) which may reset the lock and latch. If it closes, but still doesn't release the lock, the interior panel must be removed to access the lock and latch directly.

The drivers door on my 96 achieva won't close?!?

If the striker in the door-jam isn't damaged then look/inspect the door latch. It may be damaged and/or rusty, causing it to fail.
