Just before you get to the assembly step of putting on needles plug cluster in your vehicle with key off start car twice to ensure steppers reset. then with key off carefully press on needles pointing to 0 or most left mark on face. just barely attach them because after this step you need to ensure they are set proper. to do this just set parking brake put vehicle in drive the turn ignition like you going yo start it, which it wont, gauge needle will reset counter clockwise turn key off see if needle is pointing to 0 or left most mark if it is push needle down 1mm or so. repeat for each needle. if it is not on mark remove needle and start can contact me at

The speedometer on my 2004 Pontiac Montana quit working. Is there a fuse for that?

Nope. The speedometer needs a signal from the vehicle speed sensor to operate. Is the check engine light on? If so, scan for any codes that may indicate a VSS problem. If no codes, possible internal cluster issue with the speedometer head

Needle sticking or not reading correct speed

Speedometer cluster is defective. Many GM oproducts used stepper motors in the speedometer cluster. speedometer, gas gauge, tachometer etc what ever is a movement indicator.

Do not purchase a used one or one that is "repaired" if the stepper motors are not replaced with motors made after 2005. repaired units cost a few hundred dollars. individule stepper motors can be purchased on EBay for less than $10.00 each. The cluster must be removed from the vehicle and dismantled carefully, knowing it is electrical device and may be damaged by static electricity. good luck!!

Speedometer doest work how do i fix

You dont have to replace the cluster. Just replace the stepper motors. They are not difficult to do. I replace three of them and all the light bulbs in my 2004 gmc just yesterday ,, It took me three hrs from start to finish. The light bulbs are more difficult to replace than the stepper motors. Stepper motors are available on e bay for 6 bucks.
