Question about 1991 Volkswagen Jetta
I just purchased a 1991 Jetta with the 1.6L diesel. Wonderful car, but a few things need to be fixed. The cruise control is difficult to activate and many times after it is set it will abruptly turn itself off. If I roll my finger around on the "set" button I can eventually activate the cruise control. This makes me think that the switch contacts are dirty or worn. Lack or intermittant electrical contact could also be the reason it kicks out.
Any thoughts, or should I be looking elsewhere in the cruise control system?
I would agree the switch is the first thing to replace, it is also the cheapest part and a logical choice based on your description of the problem
