the computer monitors the "egr flow" thru electronic or o2 sensors. this is what i found.......... P0401] The scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0401: Insufficient flow in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.
    Possible Causes

    • Clogging, leakage in the EGR line
    • Faulty EGR valve

    • Description
Deterioration (clogging, leakage, etc.) in the EGR line or EGR valve is detected by means of the changes in MAP before and after the operation of the EGR valve. If deterioration has been detected during two consecutive driving cycles, the MIL will come on and DTC P0401 will be stored.

try cleaning it first. reset the code have autozone clear it for you. good luck jimmy

Where would you find out how to read the codes for my 97 Acura 2.2:'?

Hello again Alisa A Floyd,

Your OBD (on-board diagnostic) port is pictured in
the URL (bing LINK) BELOW...

It is centered in the center console as it curves up into the dash.

Check out local parts houses (AUTOZONE) loan tools ...
and some mechanics & muffler shops will provide "reads"
for FREE... (just be aware they REALLY WANT to SELL you anything/everything).

An excellent place to check out readers... (a whole science ... area of study) and SUPPORTING LITERATURE is on AMAZON.

Just be advised... really cheap units are being plugged into your really nice ECM...

1997 was right at the beginning of STANDIZATION... It would be a real pity to CAUSE more trouble... Than to use a reputable interface ... (read the customer feedback... look at medium priced units...
($50 - $95+++ price range... Even Bluetooth...
(on my CARS I ALSO need to reset SERVICE indicators...
(read & learn))).

Hope this helps.

Location of thermostate for 1997 acura cl 3.0

The thermostat valve is located on the intake manifold either at the end of upper or lower radiator hose. The thermostat can be removed by removing the hosing which is attached by two bolts.
The presence of the thermostat can easily be determined by removing the hose pipe and inserting a center finger into the hole. (Be sure that the engine is at room temperature to avoid finger burning).

I replaced EGR valve on my 97 Acura 3.0 CL after

I am fixing to change my EGR valve and the piece of paper that came with the part say this:

Important Notice
Before installing this part, check the EGR valve passage in the intake manifold and clear any carbon blockage. Failure to do so will result in repeat malfuntion of the EGR valve system. Refer to a technical service manual or contact a service dealer for proper cleaning procedures.

Hope this helps.

My check engine lights stays on

Hi, the best thing at at his point is to get a diagnostic review by using a diagnostic computer at the local dealership or garage. Once your car has been diagnosed, you will be able to reset the cpu and the light will go off. its probably just an O2 sensor or egr valve needed.
