Rear light failure warning light

The rear light failure warning light came on, i checked the bulbs bud there are all working. I noticed that the light for the licence plate is not working and replaced the bulbs, with no sucess. Checked all fuses but there are all good. The only thing i noticed is a loose wire under the steering weel with the same connector as the plate light. Where would i plug it back in if it came disconected and is this the reason for the warning light?

The rear light failure warning light come on when the head lamp is turned on and the left turning light blinks faster. However, everything will work fine when the head lamp is not on.

I found that when I turn the headlights off and back on again, the warning light goes off until I press the brake pedal again. All my lights seem to work as well. A real mtstery here.

When they build a car they often use a wiring harness for all the options the car could have. the thing is they don't use all the connectors... unless of course you bought all the options... be that as it may does it appear that connector belongs to something else under the dash ?

Also does one light appear brighter then the other ?

The warning light desapeared and everthing works as before with no problem. Guess there must be a loose conection? Will see how long it will last......

The warning light that looks like a car with lights coming from the rear indicates what? This light is just below the check engine light on the dash.

This warning light should indicate that there is a rear light failure. Running lights, brake lights, signal lights, reverse lights. You should check all the bulbs to see if any are burnt out.

Rear light failure?

Hey, my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee did the same thing and it took me a long time to find a solution. It turned out, at least in my case, that there was a burnt out bulb just above the license plate. When I replaced it the warning went away.

have you changed any bulbs in the rear lights yet? you can put 2 different bulbs in the 3rd brake lamp,921 and a 922. one of them will read the wrong resistance and then you will get a lamp out warning. check and make sure that they all match

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

These are Dual Function Bulbs. They control the Parking Lights and the Brake Lights. This Bulb is Burnt out on the Brake Coil inside the Bulb. I have actually seen Bulbs that were Bad But you could not Tell by jast looking at them. It should be fine with a New Bulb. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee electrical problem

Check the center brake light assembly. There are 3 bulbs and if one is out it will give you the bulb out warning. This is frequently missed as if the center bulb is out it is easy to overlook.

Do yourself a favor and replace all 3 when you are there as the dissassembly/assembly is not that easy on 96-98 Grands
