Have 2000 Impala that won't take gas. Pump sensing full tank and turning off. What could cause this? evap system?

There are two pipes that go from the fill port to the tank. One big one to let the fuel in and one small one to let the air out. If air cannot get out, fuel cannot get in. When fuel stops going in the fuel pump assumes the tank is full and shuts off. The small one is plugged somewhere, hopefully one of the small rubber hoses. A work-around is to fill the tank slow enough that the pump does not shut off.

Put a new in tank fuel pump in 3 days ago in my hyundai accent, but can smell petrol inside the car.

I would double check that your fuel tank is sealed. Fuel fumes can be very bad for your health and can be very dangerous. Sounds as though the gas line may be leaking, or the fuel pump seal is leaking.

I baught a 1999 chevy blazer from a man a month ago, I started smelling gas a week arter I vaught it.I called the man and he told me he replaced the fuel pump.I checked for leaks I couldn't find any.what...

The gas vapor return hose may have come off the fuel pump, it's just held on with a hose clamp, the hose may have came off. It attaches at the top of the tank, you may need to lower the gas a tank some to see if everything is connected.

2003 dodge neon code says fuel injectors running lean. cause?

Running lean means too little fuel. If you're not smelling fuel I would check to be sure the fuel line at the tank area and under the car isn't pinched [ speed bumps etc can bend the fuel line if it is loose already] if all is well there I suspect the fuel pump [ inside the gas tank] is beginning to quit. First try some good gas additive made for the car to see if that can give new life to a tired fuel pump.

vapor recovery system, should clear itself, some liquid fuel got into the vapor system. Avoid topping off the fuel tank.

Smell of gas fumes underneath vehicle near fuel tank

I also have a 2004 XC90 and a couple of months ago I had the exact same probelm... after multiple visits to my dealer's auto shop they figured out that it was the fuel pump. They replaced the fule pump and the smell disappeared. Good luck!
