1996 Nissan Maxima, 183,000 mi, car runs fine, 25 mi/gal. Lately, usually after having driven over 10 miles, car suddenly develops a miss which goes away pretty quickly. Sometimes, it simply stops running...


DID you properly gap the spark plugs?? This will cause misfires and may cause hard or no start conditions. Also inspect all your Ignition coil boots for cracks or oil. Clean them and blow any oils in the spark plug chambers!!

spark plugs are screwed into the cylinder head and have spark plug wires leading to them from coil packs or the distributor.

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima with a cylinder #3 misfire


if our coil is sparking and good plug ive seen manny time carbon loose and sticking on the valve valve stay open doesnt build up compression = missing check our coil if its firing go on the road rev the engine like leave it in 2nd gear drive like that overreving the engine might loosen the carbon dont rev it to mush it cost nothing to try that and it work for me a few time pierre
