The first thing i would od here is to go to an atuo parts stor and have the computer scanned to see if there are any stored codes that may help in finding the problem. the computer will store a code when it sees the engine not operating they way it should. there are many auto part stores that scan for free and give you the codes.

If this was caused by a misfire due to a bad coil then the computer should of turnned on the check engine light. try cleaning the throthlebody with a toth brush and some throtlebody cleaner, this sounds like the idle is not being controlled to specs. it is lower than normal. this may be caused by a dirty throtlebody or bad idle air control valve.

Take a look around and with the engine running check for any vacuum leaks, sometimes depending on how bad a leak you will hear a hissing sound, check lines for any splits or cracks. it common on the rear of the intake manifold. hope this helps.

Auto repair

Engine mounts control the engine movement but it may be because the idle rpm is too low. Most of these cars idle at 950 -1000 rpms.

2005 chrysler town and country when i start the van it shaking vibration hard in park and in reverse it and in neutral and in drive it perfect.it drives good on highways no shaking

try to increase the idle-rpm..
Example - at standstil condition when you start your van, have look at rpm... say 1000 or 1200 or 1500.. whatever it may be..
Keep idle-rpm a little bit higher, if previously it was 1200rpm then set it to 1500 rpm..
If the problem is solved then..
1) clean ur airfilter
2) check spark plug condition
good or bad... if bad then replace..
3) check fuel supply line, if it is damaged or folded

Hi, Ok you have confirmed that it's not a fuel problem. You need to check for spark. Pull the coil wire off of the coil(secondary lead-looks like a spark plug wire) Have some one crank it over and listen for a popping sound. IF yes, spark is at the coil, that means all ignition sensors are working. Next check for spark at ends of wires after cap. IF no replace cap and rotor. IF yes remove a couple spark plugs and check for fouling(wet, fuel etc...) IF yes replace or clean plugs and retest for starting. IF no spark is present at coil you need to scan computer and watch for rpm signal. IF no rpm signal, replace crankshaft sensor with OEM delco part. BIGGEST problem with these engines is Cap and Rotor burn out.

I have a 87 fiero L4 4cyl standard 5 speed manual tansmission.idle is rough and real bad when you come up to a stop and push the clutch in and let of the gas pedal. it cant find a steady rpm and it goes...

For what I can see you need a tune-up

- spray fuel cleaner into the throttle body directly don't let the rpm drop too much but very close to stall. The engine must be normal temp around thermostat opening.
This part of the job needs to be done with the old spark plugs.

- spark plugs + adjusting gap of the new ones
- compression test.(no more differences between each cylinder +- 25 psi)
- clean throttle body and IAC valve.
Don't forget to change the fuel filter. That should solve your problems.
hope it helps

Hi, I have a 2006 Altima with 31,500 miles. Recently, the engine start shaking when car is Idle but I still feel the shake when driving or at red lights. My second problem is a weird loud (humming) noise...

You don't need to change the spark plugs since it has only 31.5 K. The plugs should last 60K. There is a an adjustment at the gas cable end at engine to increase the idle a little bit. You can increase rpm at idle to 600 RPM. Since your RPM at idle is low that why it is shaking at idle, red lights. Let me know it it is shaking at high speed ( 2500 RPM)

My 1998 Ford F-150 5.4L V8 shakes at idle.If im at a light the truck shakes bad and sounds like its dieing out and the rpms drop to around 500-600..if i keep the brake on and give it a little gas to around...

Usually that sounds like a bad spark plug wire. It could be one of the coil packs. I have the same truck and last year that happened to me. I went to Autozone and had them check it and it showed a bad #8 wire. By that most of my hair was pulled out. But it could also be a clogged fuel filter, just not all the way. I finally bought a meter so I can check my own codes. Do you have a "Check Engine" light on?
