1995 GMC pickup. Cold AC will blow through all settings (defrost, front vents and flloor) but warm air will not come out the defrost. You can hear something click in the dash that you assume is some kind of flapper and air will blow but it's cold air.

These vehicles came with 2 types of ac controls.
The vacuum control system uses vacuum to actuate the vents and ducting from hot to cold. A lot of times the HVAC vacuum line in the engine bay (black hard plastic) is either broken or disconnected from its vacuum source.
The electronic vent control: does everything at the control knob via vent actuators and the control panel itself. With this one it could be any of the components. You would have to locate them and verify operation by moving temp/vent selector.

Usually a sign you have a blend door that is stuck, or the controller has failed. The blend doors use small electric motors controlled by the main controller on the dash.

the heater vacuum motor and lines needs to be checked.Also get the blend door checked.

Check if the compressor is working.
looks like there is a problem with compressor , hence working intermittently.

It is a vent door actuator motor on top of the blower box,the dash has to be removed and set in the seats to replace the actuator motor.Cost for the part is about 50.00 dollars

Check and replace the right side temp-controller.

check you antifreeze level and make sure its full

common problem, check under dash by the gas pedal if control arms are muving went selecting from ac to heat cuz this it is the control for the vents to go from ac to heat and to defrost.

check the hoses connected to the vacuum advance ball, it has probably begun to decompose...
