My mass air flow sensor code came up on my 2002 Impala. I just had the car repainted, could the paint smell cause this sensor?

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.

When is the code detected?An excessively low voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.

A faulty throttle position sensor or an intake air leak near the mass air flow sensor.

Stalling can be caused by the MAF sensor. Cleaning is the first thing I do. MAF cleaner is available at Parts stores for $8-10? That's a lot cheaper than a sensor. Spray it, let it soak, repeat, repeat...
If it's really dirty, it'll be a small black lump. When clean it gets nice and shiny. It is NOT recommended to use a brush. A brush can easily damage the very, very fine wire.

Hi. this code represents an issue within the mass air flow sensor. it is malfunctioning at this point. the mass air flow sensor Measures the volume and density of air entering the engine, so the electronic control module can determine how much fuel is needed to maintain the correct air to fuel mixture. There are two basic types: heated wire and heated film (grid); both work on the same principle.

A faulty MAF will cause driveability problems resulting from incorrect ignition timing and improper air/fuel ratios.

To replace a MAF sensor:

• Locate the sensor.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Unplug the wiring harness and vacuum hose.
• Unscrew the two screws holding the sensor in place.
• Reverse the procedures to install a new sensor.

i had the same problem my car keep seting the code for the mass air flow sensor. i put on 3 of the. and it was not the mass air flow sensor. i had a bad set of plug wires that was making the car set a mass air flow sensor code. my car fine now after a year. make you sure you use kia plugs. if you need anymore help let me know.
