Question about 1994 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Water pump Hi, This is in response to one of queries posted yesterday. I took my car to a mechanic for an engine over-heating problem, who on looking at said that the water pump is broken and I need to replace that and related things. He also said that the timing belt also has to be changed, and the total cost of everything (not including labor charges) is $330. With labor he says its $650. I am a student and this is my used car. I am thinking if its really gonna cost that much? Except this, the car has no other problems asof now. Any suggestions, how much for this work is gonna cost reasonably? Thanks in advance!

Depending on the miles on the car the timing belt might also need changing but to get the car running just replace the water pump if that is the issue. Is there anyone local you can talk to about finding a good mechanic? If the guy is trying to make extra money off you you might see someone else. then again he may be trying to watch after you but statistics show that might not be the case.
good luck geting your car running and I totally understand your doubts about mechanics wanting to do more than needed.

Can't use any vehicle without a thermostat

It runs cooler because you took heat out of motor,
as well as pressure

When you fix the head gasket or timing belt ,
you will be off & running

I have 2001 alero. Yesterday the coolant light came on and the engine just died. Any ideas maybe fuel pump or timing belt or could it be the water pump

IF LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON ENGINE SHUT OFF BECAUSE IT GOT TOO HOT AND OVER HEATED.WHEN YOU HAVE LOW COOLANT.YOU COULD HAVE LEAKING RADIATOR.YOU COULD HAVE LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES AND WATER PUMP. ADD MORE COOLANT IN CAR RADIATOR UNTIL YOU AT FULL COLD MARK ON THE OVER FLOW COOLANT TANK START THE CAR LET IDLE UNTIL ENGINE GET OPERATING TEMPERATURE.RAISE YOUR HOOD LOOK FOR LEAKS THE RADIATOR PRESSURE WILL PUSH COOLANT OUT WHERE LEAKS COULD BE.LOOK AROUND RADIATOR AND COOLANT HOSES.LOOK AT WATER PUMP.IF YOU SEE COOLANT LEAKING AT WATER PUMP REPLACE IT.

Help! I'm stuck and stumped. 2001 Beetle GLS 2.0 - Two weeks ago the car was overheating quickly, red temperature light flashing and beeping. I changed the thermostat, flushed the radiator and filled it...

SOUND LIKE COOLANT FANS HAS A FAULTY THERMO SWITCH LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR ON LEFT HAND SIDE.CHECK THE FUSES 8 IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHECK FUSE 16 IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX.WHEN ENGINE OVERHEATING IF BOTH COOLING FANS WORKING.OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE BLOWN HEAD GASKET.CHECK ENGINE OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK HEAD GASKET LEAKING.SEE WHEN YOU DRIVING LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS THE COOLING FANS SUPPOSE TO BE RUNNING.IF THEY NOT RUNNING THAT IS YOUR OVER HEATING PROBLEM.

It over heats we replaced the thermistate (spelled wrong)flushed the radator still over heated took thermastate back out left it out it worked good but now is over heating again

CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE SEE IF ITS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE IF SO WATER PUMP SHAFT BEARING GOING BAD CAUSING WATER PUMP LOCK UP HARD TO TURN.MAKE SURE DRIVE BELT NOT SLIPPING DUE TO BAD BELT TENSIONER.CHECK TO SEE IF COOLING FANS TURN ON WITH AIR CONDITIONER ON HIGH.IF NOT CHECK HEATER + AC IGNITION FUSE.IF FUSE GOOD.YOU HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD.CHECK ENGINE OIL IF LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE YOU HAVE LEAKING HEAD GASKET.IF OIL LOOKS GOOD.YOUR ENGINE CYLINDER BLOCK WATER CORES CLOGGED UP WITH RUST RESTRICTING COOLANT FLOW THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK TO REMOVE HEAT AWAY FROM THE ENGINE.BLOCK PROBABLY NEED FLUSHED OUT AT RADIATOR SHOP.

Mazda Protege 2.0 Engine Problem

Thanks for update. That timing belt issue, was the first thing that came to mind, well let's hope they find problem. I'd make a point of showing the original mechanic the repair order/bill after to see what his response is, if it is the belt installed wrong. Keep me posted.

90 Subaru Overheating

Are you sure you don't have a head gasket leak? Are you loosing water? I have not seen the previous post you had, but I believe the air plug you are refering to is the one on the radiator. It is used to complete the coolant bleeding.
