You don't say what year, brand and model car you have.
The Check Engine (CE) warning and the triangle warning are different.
1. If the CE light is on there are dozens of possible causes but you need to have the car scanned to see what faults have been generated and what irregularities show up in the operation of the engine. Don't delay having it professionally checked out or the computer may send the vehicle into limp mode to protect the engine or the engine may stop altogether and you will not be able to restart it..
2. The triangle with the exclamation mark is normally the traction control (TC) system warning. If this displays constantly the TC may have been turned off manually or (more likely) there is a problem detected with the TC system and it has been shut down by the computer. You will need a scan to see what faults the computer has detected so a proper diagnosis of the problem can be made.
Hello: TC Means traction control. It would be best to check for symptom codes with a upscale scanner to find out what is causing the code. Make sure there isn't a switch to turn the TC system off. Check above the center console on the center dash panel for the switch, may have TC on it.
With the car turned off, push in and hold the trip reset button for the odometer. While holding the trip reset button, turn the key to the on position. The light will turn off. The check engine light will turn on every 5k miles to remind you to change your oil unless you or someone else changed the factory defaults on this setting.
You have an engine code. When engine code sets it disable the traction control & tc light comes on. Go to auto zone they will check for codes for free. Your can buy your part & install your self if simple. If you need special tool they have loaners
You may want to check the speed sensor of the car. IT should be located in between the engine and the transmission. At high speeds if the ecu would not get any feedback from the sensor it would normally light up the check engine light.
sounds like it needs a motor... check your oil and coolant... motor either ran out of oil or overheated either way the engine is probably smoked... most engine jobs run around 5000 dollars
YOU CAN GO TO ANY ADVANDED AUTO PARTS AND THEY CAN HOOK UP A OBD2 SCANNER, WE THEY DO ASK THEM TO RESET THE LIGHT FOR YOU.. THIS IS A FREE SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC..GOOD LUCK KEITH..
I had the same indications on My 2000 Maxima but the engine was also running rough . I replaced the number 3 cylinder ignition module and all of the spark plugs and all of the error lights are back to normal I had to reset the check engine light by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes.By the way my car has 253,000 miles on it so if you have a lot of miles on your car you might want to check all of the ignition modules so pull your spark plugs and read them they might tell you where your problem is .
