Question about 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep problems Sorry for such a delay in responding. Thank you so very much for all of your expertise!! I haven't had the time or money to be without my car or to purchase parts. Shortly after I posted the last list my car decides to only go in fifth gear occasionally which really SUCKS when I have to drive on the interstate to SC every other weekend! It will more often than not eventually kick into 5th but it takes a few miles down the road for it to happen. The cruise control won't work the majority of the time and usually starts working about an hour down the road. Weird! Of course the engine light is still on and it doesn't stall as often for some strange reason. Now, about a week ago the fan stopped working and my car overheats if I sit too long. I just had the relay switch replaced about a year ago. I took it into the shop yesterday and they quoted me $775.00!!! This would be for a new fan and motor along with a new throttle position sensor. Crazy!! I have a friend that is pretty mechanic savvy who has offered to fix it if I buy the parts (which would only cost about $200 for both). How hard of a fix is this and should I put my faith in him??? Thanks again!!

Your ecu is in need of repair. Your jeep has what is known as the "delayed check engine light problem". Time has taken it's toll on some of your ecu's internal components, the ones that supply power the fuel and ignition circuit relays. The ecu is slow to supply power to the circuits in the morning, causing the delay. Your jeep may also have a bad crank sensor, which would cause the sudden shutdown while driving. Your ecu can be repaired or replaced, your choice. Both options are available on ebay.

Have to turn the ignition on and off several times to get the fuel pump working

Your Jeep ecu is in need of repair. Your jeep is having a common problem known as the "Delayed check engine light" starting problem. Next time you try starting the jeep and it the fuel pump won't prime, look at the dash.....the check engine light is not on and the fuel pump will not come on until the check engine light eventually come on, on the dash. Have it repaired and it will eliminate the delayed check engine light start problem.

I sent a question to FixYa regarding my 2003 Jeep Cherokee and why the air bag light goes on and off on the dash. My credit card has been charged the $24.50 cost to pay for the techs imput on this problem....

The clockspring contact under the steering wheel is most likely defective, best thing is to hook up a scanner that reads your air bag system, these parts are expensive, so have it scanned you will save money, I can't help with the loss of your money but I can give you good advice

Car still wont crank

sorry for the delay but if you can't figure whats wrong and still no spark try to see if any of the wires going to the coils have pawer when ignition is turn on, if not thats the problem but if does then it does not mean you have to take it to the dealer, any auto repair will fix it, it does not have to be the dealer, and on the coil plate, was the whole plate replaced with the module on the bottom or jkust the coils? because they are together with the ignition module, and the module might be the problem
