Question about 2001 Hyundai Elantra

2001 Elantra GLS problem

The check engine light has been on for some time now. I took it to a mechanic who ran the code and replaced the O2 sensor. But the check engine light has never gone off and it revs up to 5000 when I try to accelerate over 20mph before making a "throttle" or "jolt" feeling. After that it is slow to accelerate. I have taken it back several times but they keep saying the same thing. While I was driving yesterday the check engine light starting flashing a few times and then would stay on before repeating the cycle. It shakes really bad now anytime I'm driving and have to idle. It also smelled hot. Now, I am afraid to drive it. Any suggestions?

I had an Issue like that on my 2001 Hynudai Elantra GLS and it ended up needing to have the Ignition coil replaced.

PO-139 I had that sensor change 3 weeks ago and the check engine light came on again this morning. Thanks

Probably replaced a good sensor. This codes could be from a bad sensor, a vacuum leak, or an exhaust leak before the sensor.

Code said to change o2 sensor and check engine light is still on

Not knowing the original codes, very seldom does a code actually say "replace" anything.
The purpose for trouble codes is to direct the tech to look for specific problems or issues.
If the code says, O2 sensor lean or rich, it is saying what the computer got for data from the sensor. Nothing else.
The tech has to figure out if the sensor was reliable or not.
And replacing more than one O2 sensor at the same time is extremely rare. About the only time I know of that is when the engine blows and the coolant or the oil in the exhaust takes out more than one sensor.
What is the code now ?

Check the level in the ******. Make sure that oil is there and topped up if necessary. It should be on the upper marks. Good luck.

Hello! Both faults are pointing at the same Oxygen Sensor...Upstream Bank 2...Meaning in the exhaust header before the Cat. converter on the right side of the engine...O2 sensors generally cause a P-code as an effect rather than a cause...But in this instance it's a defective O2 Sensor...Replace...

2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS. Check engine light, code PO133

Did you use a aftermarket O2 sensor or a genuine Hyundai one? If it's an aftermarket one it may be bad or not as good as the OEM one. See here for more details and other potential causes: P0133

I have a 2001 Santa Fe and the Engine light is lit and has been for many years. When I took the vehicle for the State Inspection I was told that the Co2 needed to be changed so the light would come off and...

The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.

If the filter is not at the tank, under the access panel, under the rear seat, then it is inside the tank.

You need to access the code and the code should tell you what's wrong.

Go to the dealer and they can do it for you.
