Question about Subaru Outback

1 Answer

Rear latch/lock seems to stick on my 1998 legacy outback! Car can be unlocked and rear latch will not open. Sometimes you can put the key in turn to left to lock, then to rt to unlock and it will open. Any suggestions on a solution?

Hi, my 1999 subaru outback wagon has the same problem. the doors are unlocked but the rear latch/lock is stuck in the locked position. Nothing visible holding it there. Tried unlocking w/ the key in the hatchback unsuccessfully.

    Good Day;

Do you have a switch, button or lever to unlock the trunk from the inside? If so I would check to see if there is anything pushing the button or anything that has stop the lever from rtn to resting spot.

Please let me know then we can go from there.

    Cheers

I have used wd40 to help out. I live on a dusty road and have been told the dust gets in the lock and makes it stick. Annoying.

The back hatch door on my Outback was stuck.

mcdevito75 here, Check everything inside the door, linkages, Activating rods for the locks, also make sure all nuts and bolts are tight, also double check the position of the lock, the lock itself should be able to be adjusted to make sure it locks correctly and in the right spot in the door, you can use Liquid wrecch to free everything up and then White Grease can br sprayed on all the linkages, rods ETC.

'99 subaru legacy wagon rear hatch won't unlock

before you pull stuff, go to the back of the car. Instead of pulling the latch (away from the car and towards you) to open the hatch, push the lever in the other direction (towards the car, away from you).

i had this happen to me and read about it online, worked totally fine. It's just stuck towards you and not "sitting" correctly. Hope it works!

1997 subaru outback make clicking noise on in reverse. Also, sometimes when the car is turned off, the car lurches a bit

does it click while reversing straight or while turning? Sounds like a stick shift. Lunging probably due to e-brake needing adjustment(if stick shift). If your car only clicks while turning in reverse you need new front axles and can probably drive that way for a while

1998 Subaru Legacy Hatch no longer opens

Most of the time these rivits break when you pull them out but sometime you get lucky. They can be bought from subaru at a cheap pruice tag. Just slip a butter knife or something of the sort under the head and pry up. Good Luck. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer.

2003 Subaru Legacy Outback: Driver's door lock brocken, tab feels

alot of times a lock smith has "slim jimmed" the car before and that subsequently can break clips or knock off lock rods to the latch. not too hard to fix if you can get the door open in order to remove inner door panel accessing that latch and rods...if the door wont open i have used a very long ,slendy screwdriver and poked down the window opening to mannually open the door latch ...it takes a little time and some gentle poking to hit the lever on that door latch

My running lights will not turn off unless I unhook the battery.

Subaru Outback Legacy Flashing
Q. I have a 1996 Subaru Outback Legacy AWD manual transmission. the hazards flash when I turn the car off. I tried to reset the system by pushing the little black button under the drivers' side dash but it won't reset the system. I had problems with the brakes so I did not drive it for about two months and when I tried to start the car the battery was dead.
mechanic.jpg Now the brakes are fixed but the hazards won't quit flashing and the guy who repaired the car said I needed to reset the system by pushing the little black button. And I don't know if I should have it looked at, or change the battery, or if it is something very simple I can fix by my self.
Thank you very much,
Patrick
A. Patrick, you are the third person in the last two days that has come to me with this same exact problem under the same conditions. As of now I don't have any concrete information on this, but I believe the problem to be in the alarm system.
I believe the battery being disconnected or dying does something to the Anti-theft and Alarm System module and having a Subaru dealer reset the system will correct it.
If you do this and it works, please, let me know and I will pass the information on to the others.

Dear Mr. Ciulla,
I read your Q&A titled "Subaru Outback Legacy Flashing". I recently had the same problem on my 1996 2.5 liter Subaru Legacy Outback and your response is correct but I can give you a little more detail on what worked for me to stop the light flashing (which occurs sometimes if the battery had been dead):
There is a black reset button under the I/P near the anti-theft module.
  1. Turn ignition on
  2. Hold button 20+ seconds (door locks will lock/unlock 3 times)
  3. Turn ignition off
This also resets the key FOB so as step 2.5 you should also press the "lock" button on the key FOB before releasing the black reset button (door locks will lock/unlock one more time--do this with each key FOB you own). That's all!
The questioner in your Q&A said he tried the reset button; I suspect he either didn't turn the ignition on/off or didn't hold it in for over 20 seconds.
PS... pulling the door lock fuse will stop it temporarily if you can't get the above to work and have to take it to the dealer
Regards,
John
