I have a 1995 chevy lumina and sometimes it will not start. When I turn the key to start the dashboard lights up and shows all gauges to be getting power. After a few tries the car will start.

    hello
I am having the same problem with my 97 monte carlo. Sometimes the car started fine, other times I would have to try numerous times before it would start. I was told it was my battery so I changed that along with the battery terminals and wiring. Same Problem happened when I went to pick it up. I was then told it was my key because my chip wiggles slightly, bought the new key jumped in the car and it wouldn't start. Same Problem. I am now being told that if the key went in and turned over it was doing its job, that I probably need an ignition switch. Is the ignition swich the whole ignition key mechanism or is it something else totally?

I also have a 95 Lumina Van that won't start sometimes. We first tought it was the coil pack, but my battery gage goes crazy and I can be driving down the road and all of the sudden it will pick up power and take off or it might die on me. Sometimes it will start right back up, sometimes it won't. I think I have a wiring problem, too many things going on for too long without something going completely out like the coil pack or the alternator. Don't know what it is, somebody tell us. Ilove my van!!!!!

It sounds like the problem i have, but i think it's the neutral position safety switch. it only lets the engine start if the transaxle is in park or neutral. if it's broken or is out of adjustment, it won't let you start the car because it thinks it's in gear... I'm going to see how hard it is to change and I'll let you know if it fixes it.

There is a fuse from the ignition switch. There is also a fusible link. Below is a wiring diagram that you can look at and it has the wire colors as well. This I hope will help you narrow down your power loss to the solenoid. If you need anymore wiring diagrams for your vehicle I have them all and you are free to email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with what you need. You need to check for power at the purple wire going to the solonoid while key is in the start position, if no juice then check starter relay-under hood- fuse ,and ignition switch

Chevy lumina, lost keys, broke ignition, need to fix the wires

Solder and shrink tubing work fine for that. That is for the pk2 theft module that tells the car that you are using the correct key with the chip in it.

Ignition switch won't turn and car won't go into gear 1995 Chevy Lumina

Make sure you don't have the steering wheel locked. If the key still won't turn then you will have to replace the ignition lock cylinder. The gear shifter on any car should not move unless key is turned.
