Question about 2004 Toyota Camry
I have a 2004 Camry LE automatic. 53K miles. When I stop and put it in park, sometimes I can't turn the key all the way off. I have to put it into reverse, back up a little, then put it into park again. The key turns off and everything is fine. This happened in the spring, not the summer, now it's happening again, possibly with the cooler weather? The dealer is willing to replace either the ignition or the part of the transmission - shifter - for free. But if it turns out to be the opposite part, he won't replace that too. And he's not sure which it is. Has anyone had this problem - or do you have any idea which is the problem?
To be quite frank, a little further diagnosis on the part of the dealer will rectify this condition, but,
When the key will not come out, try pushing the shifter forwards towards the park position. If the key comes out then, it just may be an adjustment at the shifter cable.
