If my rear suspension air bags have all the air gone out of them and the compressor does not fill them because it is defective, can I still drive the car until I change the bags and the compressor? and for how long?

It can be very dangerous to drive the vehicle without the air bags as it will limit the handling and manuverability. The air ride systems can be very expensive to replace as individual components and especially in groups if more than one component started to fail (which happens regularly).. have you looked into considering a conversion kit at all? www.strutmasters.com has a great conversion kit with a lifetime warranty. http://www.strutmasters.com/Lincoln-Town-Car-Air-Suspension-Conversion-Shocks-p/-ltc-r2s.htm They are made in America and designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle. I only recommend them because I believe in their product and have had great experiences with their customer service.

You can still drive the car but you have limited rear shocks. I wouldn't do it for any longer than I had to. If money for replacement of the air shocks is a concern, there is a cheaper "regular" shock retrofit kit available.

Need help replacing air suspension compresoor for 1996 Lincoln Town Car

after working on those systems quite a bit,I really think it is better
to replace the air bags with a coil spring(they make a kit)
Only takes an hour or so,and the air ride problems will
be gone forever.Mine drives better with the conversion than it ever did with the air bags.

Those Lincolns are notorious for that,I'd just get a set of coil springs out of a Crown Victoria cop car(junk yard)and swap them out.Done it many times, you can do it in about an hour, and they'll never leak down again.By the way, there's some O-rings in that system.Make some soapy water and spray every connection, just maybe you'll get lucky.

Rear air bags supension light comes on

Usually this is caused by jacking the rear of the car without turning off the air suspension first using the switch in the trunk. Unfortunately, if this is the case the airbags will likely need replacing and they are not cheap.

It is also possible that they wore out or the air compressor has gone bad. Can you hear the compressor starting as normal when you first start the car? If so, then its the bags.

Im going to live it parked for 3 months

Hi, 3 months is not that long for a car to sit. But yes, turn the air suspension switch located in the trunk to "off", disconnect the + positive from the battery post under the hood, and last fill the gas tank (full) to prevent inner gas-tank corrosion. When you return, connect the + positive to the battery, start the car, then turn the air suspension switch to "on". Don't be surprised if the air bags in the suspension lose some air while gone, the bags are known to leak.

Air suspension is controlled by the compressor in your engine compartment.  The compressor runs when the suspension is not level.  Either because you have loaded the car with exceptional weight and the system is now adjusting the ride, or you have a leak in the system, or you have a bad sensor.
If you have a leak, the most likely culprit are the air suspension bags, the air suspension solenoids or possibly the lines to them.

I don't work for either of them.  I own a 96 TC and have replaced my air suspension with coil springs form Strutmasters.  Work GREAT and I have no more air suspension problems.  Rides just as good too.  You can't tell the difference.
