When you say "Push the button", I am assuming that you are talking about the button in front of the shifter, yes?

If so, the problem that you have is a "shift interlock" problem.

Try this. Start the car, and have someone stand at the back of the car. Push the brake pedal.
Ask them if the brake lights come on. If not, you have a bad brake lamp fuse, or a bad brake lamp switch above the brake pedal. The brake light circuit ALSO puts power to the shifter interlock so you can take it out of park. No power to the shifter interlock; you will need to push the button. Doubt that the duplicate key has anything to do with this.
Hope this helps. Please consider good feedback for this solution.

The gear shift is stuck in park. I can depress the button on the gear shift, but it won't move.

Replace the gear shift. The solenoid you pushed down on is jammed. You can't buy just the solenoid.

Key stuck in ignition

Lubrication of the ignition key lock would be useful. CRC or WD 40 could help. Use the key to get the lubrication into the tumblers inside the lock. If the key is left in the ignition the auxilliary circuit was still active and drained the battery. In cold weather the condensation of water in the air on metal parts causes all kinds of problems. Lubricate for protection!

Look in the owners manual their is a place to stick your key or a screw driver to release the safety switch when you apply the brake to shift out of park, it could be the stop light at the brake peddle.

My keys are stuck in the ignition

This has happened to me before in two cars. A mercedes and a volvo. I had to push the shift gear to the top when I put it in Parking. They wouldn't allow me to retrieve the key until I did this. Hope this helps.

The shift interlock button wont release the gear shift to go in park or drive

Its a simple fix - you just need to put your right hand underneath the dash, under the ignition switch with the stuck key, and feel around for the stiff transmission-shift-lock cable, and just giggle it about a bit. Try all directions, don't be aggressive with it; and eventually you will be able to turn the key to the LOCK position. Good luck

I took the cover off the steering column by removing 4 screws. (I had to remove the dash by removing 2 screws behind the Hood release and yanking the cover off. This is how you gain access to the two forward most bolts on the steering column cover.) From hear you should see the shift interlock on the top right of the sterring column. Pull the white lever to release the key lock. Turn the key to lock and remove your key.
I would then purchase a new interlock and replace it.

Check in your fuse panel. The top first row and the first fuse. I took that fuse out and had the same problem. My gear shift button was stuck. I put the fuse back in and it worked.

2006 Nissan X Trail Gear Shift Stuck in Park. No warning lights are on, car starts fine, gear shift stuck in park and will not move unless I manually do it by depressing the shift lock with a key or screw...

This is not a permanent fix, but you'll be able to shift and drive...this is a "safety feature" when you're break lights aren't working...it may be a fuse issue, i found that didn't help either.

How to drive it while it's "broken" On the top left of your gear shift is circle that looks like a button that is only 3/4 there...see picture (it's circled in red)

e024280.jpg
pry that off with a key or something... now restart your car, push on the break and at the same time insert a key or something into the now open hole...while pushing down use the other key to shift into reverse. You will need to do the same thing to shift back into park.

Good heavens that is the most inneficient safety feature I've ever heard of. How about instead of leaving the car immoble and keeping you in a scetchy neihborhood to get mugged they just "invent" a warning light notification. grr
