My x-type diesel has been struggling for a few months running poorly and struggles to start (more so when warm). Jag told me the EGR and inlet manifold was coked up - which I have now cleaned. runs much smoother however day 2 the starting issues have arisen again. Jag suggested turbo actuator however i cant see that would affect starting, would it?

Thanks for your quick response. i'll get those checked out. interestingly the problem is worse when the engine is warm - do you still think it could be related to these? one concern I had was that the EGR valve was jammed but dont know how to check that either

COULD HAVE BAD FUEL WRONG TYPE FUEL COULD NEED NEW AIR FILTER. DIESEL ENGINE NEEDS AIR TO OPERATE.IF AIR FILTER RESTRICTED.DIESEL ENGINE WONT RUN AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER CAUSE STARTING PROBLEMS PROBLEMS WITH TURBOCHARGER OR TURBOCHARGER ACTUATOR WOULD CAUSE ENGINE RUN VERY SLOW NO POWER ON TAKE OFF.I SAY PROBLEM IN FUEL SYSTEM OR AIR INTAKE SYSTEM.IF YOU HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH ON.

Thanks for your response, much appreciated. I'll get the fueld and air intake checked out. Interstingly this issue is worse whent eh engine is warm. Do you think that the fuel/air may still be the issue? One concern i had was that the EGR valve may be stuck, do you know if this could cause starting issues or a way to easily test it? thanks

EGR VALVE HAS TO BE REPLACED IF THEY FAIL. MOST OF THE TIME IF YOU HAVE EGR VALVE PROBLEMS. THE PORT HOLE ON INTAKE WHERE EGR SET ON BECOME CLOGGED WITH CARBON.OR EGR VALVE ITSELF FAULTY.CHECK EGR VALVE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION MAKE SURE CONNECTOR IN PLACE TIGHT. TO CHECK EGR VALVE IT TAKES DEALERSHIP SCANNER TO CHECK IT.

2005 Ford Focus struggling to accelerate after driven for a while.

The issue you're encountering with your 2005 Ford Focus may be related to the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system. The EGR system is responsible for controlling the amount of exhaust gases that are re-circulated into the engine, and a problem with the system can cause the engine to run poorly.
In your case, the fact that the COMMAND EGR value is stuck at 45-50% indicates a possible issue with the EGR valve or the vacuum lines that control it. A clogged or stuck EGR valve can cause the engine to run poorly, which could result in the symptoms you're experiencing.
I would suggest checking the EGR valve and vacuum lines for any signs of damage or clogging. Clean or replace the EGR valve and vacuum lines if necessary. Additionally, checking the vacuum solenoid that controls the EGR valve and ensuring it's functioning properly can also help resolve the issue.
If the EGR system checks out and you're still experiencing the problem, you may want to consider a more in-depth diagnosis from a qualified technician, as the issue could be related to other components such as the throttle body, MAF (mass air flow) sensor, or catalytic converter.

I have a jag xtype 2.0 diesel and I’m getting black smoke I’ve changed egr and changed the inter cooler pipe but still smoking

Could be a few things , injector leaking or defect spray, carbon build up on inlet valves resticking air flow and over rich mixture.

Struggling engine. Daewoo lanos 1998

you are on the right track, start with replacing plug wires, then the plugs. first thing i would check. but when you replace one replace them all so you will not have to change a different one every few months. after checking these please let me know what happened, if more trouble shooting is needed i will help you. please let me know if you got covered or if i need to put a little more my brain power to help your horse power.

2001 vw golf gt tdi is struggling to start when cold and sometimes hot..when started it struggles 2 stay ticking over at 900 revs...what can i do??please help

golfs coldstart system works when you open door/shut door/put key in hole and turn on (in that order)if you delay puting belt on for longer than say 30 secs the coils go cold, hence poor starting.if engine labours after cold start try using (really)one gallon of petrol in tank to clean injectors.
british army put petrol (30%)in diesel tanks of challenger tanks in arctic
to stop fuel freezing.....most parts replacement jockeys in garages will say if you put diesel in tank it will have to flushed out.lot of bollocks.
trust me.have put petrol in by mistake loads of times, only get hot start
problems if you put in too much.

Jag X TYPE Diesel Black smoke coming from exhaust on acceleration

i had this problem and thought the fuel filter oil filter needed replacing so i have just had a service done but problem is still there but not as bad. been told it could be the AGR valve or a split pipe going to it which recuirculates unused fuel back to burn again. therefore unspent fuel is coming out of the exhaust causing the black smoke. i am still looking for the answer aswell, hope this helps.
