Have a 1985 chevy s10 pick up & the 4 wheel drive wont engage. I already replaced the solenoid on top of the transfer case, & it still wont engage. I can hear the transfer case engage & I have vacum at the...

Make sure that the vacuum hose connector is connected AND connected correctly at the transfer case and at the front differential. If that is all right and the front differential still doesn't engage, then you need to test the vacuum actuator at the front differential.

Type of fluid in differential for a 1997 k2500

In 1997 GM used 80W90 dino fluid in the rear diff. Starting in 1998 they started using 75W90 GF-5 rated synthetic. GM says not to use an additive in the G80 locking diff installed in trucks as it could slow the locking mechanism and cause damage.

How do i check fluid in in rearend on a 1998 GMC jimmy

On most differentials, there is a plug. It will have a square recess in the plug. Using a 3/8" ratchet and extension, place the extension in the plug and turn counter-clockwise to remove. (No socket required, just the extension.)

On most vehicles, the oil should be just below the level of the hole. I have relatively small hands, I just use my little finger to check the level of oil.

In past, I always used 90 weight gear oil to bring level of, but depending on your differential, you may need a special oil. (My 2001 Tahoe with locking differential used a synthetic oil. The dimwits at the oil change place added regular 90 weight oil, even after I told them not to, had to have dealer drain, and replace.)
