i have a light turning on dash "Service Engine Soon" and i checked the code and it is P0171. Now it could be fuel pressure or mass air flow sensor, i am not sure how to fix this problem.

I have codes 172 & 175 (Fuel trim bank 1 & 2, running to rich) So I was told to replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Easy install but very expensive ($150). We'll see if the service engine light comes back on.

I got a diagnostic test on my car cause my check engine light is on and it is shaking real bad when driving it and when i stop at a red light it seems like it wants to stall out

P0305 is a # 5 cylinder misfire , do you know what that is ? Check engine light flashing indicates a severe misfire that can damage the catalytic converter . Don't drive this vehicle ,take it immediately to a qualified repair shop or the dealer .
A Ford P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1, and P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2. These codes commonly occur on many Ford vehicles, and are set when the powertrain control module (PCM) sees the air/fuel mixture is running too lean (too much air, not enough fuel).

Diagonostic trouble codes reported p0171 p0174 p0302 2001 Taurus, only reports P0171

P0171 is system too lean bank 1, P0174 is too lean bank 2, and 302 is misfire bank 1. Look for vacuum leaks. If you don't find them, put a vacuum gage on it can check. The P0171 is almost always a vacuum leak. If not other possibilities are front O2 sensor is too old and should be replaced (if mileage is greater than 100k then replace). Try injector cleaner. Misfires are usually bad spark plugs, but could possibly be caused by insufficient fuel. I've never had a car of mine in bad enough shape to have that error.
